Message 1389566 - Posted: 10 Jul 2013, 18:27:15 UTC

I upgraded my ATI driver recently to AMD ATI Radeon HD 4600 series (R730) (512MB) driver: 1.4.1734. For the first time, I am getting AP tasking for the ATI. However, they are all erroring out. Stderr shows "<core_client_version>7.0.64</core_client_version>

The section starting with "CPU features" repeats many times until AP just gives up. What is this error and/or how can I diagnose and fix it?
Thanks,
Jim

Please turn your screen saver to "none" ,
stop then start up Boinc Manager, and post
the first 40 or so lines of your event log to
assist in problem determination.

Hmmmm, "ERROR: some exception inside short FFA, probably video-driver restart, restarting app...".

I had that exact same Error, as did the person that wrote the program. We solved it by Not Running the CAL_ATI program with that Driver again. I went from Windows 8 to XP to continue testing the App with a different driver.

I don't think you are going to fix it...

I don't think so. Is that AMD software?

Thanks,

Try to install driver 12.8.
You should at least have CAL support to run astropulse units.

Yes, it is AMD software.
"
The AMD Catalystâ„¢ software engine is comprised of three primary software components:

AMD Catalyst Control Centerâ„¢ - AMD Catalystâ„¢ software application and user interface for setup, configuration, and accessing features of AMD Radeon products.
Unified Graphics Display Driver - AMD Catalystâ„¢ software enabling other PC programs and devices to use advanced graphics, video, and features of AMD Radeon products.
Video Capture Driver - AMD Catalystâ„¢ software for recording and "capturing" digitized video from external sources onto your PC's disk drives using AMD Radeon products.
"

It sounds like you installed Unified Graphics Display Driver only. Here is Catalyst for Radeon HD 4600 Win7 32-bit: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeonaiw-vista32.aspx

Catalyst 13.1: OpenCL(tm) Driver 10.0.937.2
OpenCL is part of the Catalyst Control Center. Do you have Catalyst installed?

Here is an event log. It appears my driver doesn't support something called OpenCL. I'm only first level computer savvy so I have no idea what OpenCL is.

Use this table for info and links:
http://www.hal6000.com/seti/boinc_ati_gpu_cheat_sheet.htm

Catalyst 13.1 is not good, from Lunatics ReadMe.txt
"Minimum required driver:
All OpenCL applications are compiled under SDK 2.6 so minimum driver is
Catalyst 11.12 Accelerated Parallel Processing (APP) Technology Edition

GPU`s with fewer than 12 compute units like 5770/6770/7770 might experience
driver restarts with Catalyst 13.1. Please update to Catalyst 13.4
"

driver: 1.4.1734 you use now seems to be some (beta?) version between Catalyst 12.4 and 12.6
There is no official Catalyst 12.5

A couple of things to note:

7/11/2013 1:44:27 PM | | CAL: ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 4600 series (R730) (CAL version 1.4.1734, 512MB, 480MB available, 960 GFLOPS peak)

This is a HD4*** GPU, AMD has split the drivers for HD5*** and above and HD4*** and below, the link you supplied is for HD5*** and above GPUs,
the latest (non Beta) driver for HD4*** and below GPUs is Cat 13.1:

AMD Game downloads

AMD Catalystâ„¢ Driver for AMD Radeonâ„¢ HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 Series

The Cat 13.1 problem stated above is with the AMD OpenCL MB v7 app, the AMD OpenCL AP app is unaffected, since the HD4600 can't do MB v7 it shouldn't a problem in his case.
