This probably qualifies as the stupid question of the day, but back when I first joined SETI, it was running on Windows, but as a DOS application. At some point a Windows version was made that had a GUI that displayed the current work units being processed, as well as the type/intensity and a few other goodies. While it was nice, computing power was a fraction of what it is today (Was running a screaming Intel DX40 w/ 2 MB RAM!!! ZOOooommm!).
I see many references to the video/graphics cards being used, but I can't say for certain that there is still a GUI interface...if there is, I can't find it. The SETI page I have now, Boinc Manager 7.0.64 2.8.10 (widget version), provides info about past work units, but nothing that I can stare at for hours on end.
I'm sure I am missing something, although I can't say I have much of a hot rod computer nor a screaming video card. Can someone enlighten this old fool?

Normally one should ask this in the Q&A section, but since you asked so nicely.
If you go the the 'Tasks' tab, select the workunit currently running, and click the 'Show Graphics' button, you may find what you're looking for.

Thank you for the quick reply. When I go to the task tab, the graphics tab is grayed out. I have two tasks, but I can't pull up the graphics due to the tab being gray on both of 'em. Am I in some sort of "Economy Mode"?

Seems like you have not got the Seti screensaver operating, this is how I run
the project hence my graphics tab is always greyed out. Activate the Seti
screen saver function and you should then be able to activate your graphics.

I run the Linux client with optimised apps (at least they will become the optimised versions again when the current crop on the new machine is exhausted), and they always have the tab greyed out.

According to the website you don't have any Seti tasks at present, perhaps the tasks you have are late, have been completed and validated by others, and then purged from the database:

All tasks for computer 4366926

You have one other uncompleted task at milkyway, and one other task that was late:

All tasks for computer 463579

If you have any Seti tasks on your computer now you might as well abort them, as they don't exist in the database any more, and you won't get credit for them.

Technically speaking, there was never an official DOS (16bit) executable released. The old SETI@home science app has always been a 32bit Windows PE (portable executable) application. Though you could run the executable from a DOS prompt, it required full Windows support (i.e. Windows had to be running).

You are correct about the Windows/DOS version, I think it was a 386 version and it ran considerably faster than the Windows version.
I purged all projects and dedicated the BOINC to SETI only, although I haven't been able to contact the scheduler, being deferred. I'm hoping that when/if SETI sends another work unit, the graphics tab will be highlighted. Time will tell.

One needed a minimum of 32MB to run Seti Classic on Windows (95/98/NT): What do I need to participate in SETI@home? wrote:

For Macintosh systems you'll need the above, as well as a PowerPC processor and Mac OS 7.5.5 or later. You can use SETI@home on a laptop that is connected sporadically. We also support many versions of UNIX, including Linux on various CPUs. We hope to eventually support other systems such as OS/2 and BeOS. We won't support WebTV. There are no CPU speed or modem speed requirements. It doesn't matter where in the world you live.

Windows 95 needed a minimum of 4MB to run, 8MB recommended. :)

To see the graphics in BOINC, you have to select (click on) one of the running tasks before the Show graphics button gets activated. There's no need to separately enable the screen saver first. The videocard or videochip does need to have OpenGL drivers installed before the graphics (or screen saver) work. Drivers installed by Windows lack OpenGL capability, only drivers from the graphics processor's manufacturer have this built in.

Only the Multibeam/Seti Enhanced (v6.03) and Seti v7.00 CPU applications have graphics capability. Not any of the GPU applications, nor Astropulse, nor any (Lunatics) optimized applications.

The Stock CPU Astropulse v6 app does have a screensaver, and so did the v505 app beforehand, and the v5 app before that:

I've only seen others say it doesn't have graphics, never tried one myself as they only very sporadically seem to find their way onto my system (as in 3 in as many years).

Thanks to all who responded! I finally figured it out and it was indeed a very stupid mistake. Every time I would look at the work project, the "Graphics" tab was grayed out. I installed OpenGL drivers and kept coming up empty. I re-read the posts a zillion times and finally noticed a small nuance in wording from one of the posts, indicating that the running task needs highlighted and then the graphics tab works. The secret was the word "running". I have my SETI set up to suspend work when the computer is being used for anything else. When I would look at the tasks, it would suspend the computations. It still showed all of the info, just the task wasn't active due to the suspension of computation when the computer detected keyboard/mouse usage. Set the preferences to "Run Always" and the "Graphics" tab lit up!
It doesn't take much to make me happy! :^)

Looking at your tasks in progress it shows only Seti Enhanced 6.03 tasks, since we're moved on to v7 tasks now you'll want to select the Seti v7 option in your Setiathome preferences otherwise you'll find you'll often be out of work,
