On this board we have all seen people make claims that at best could be described a questionable. In their defense they may be just re-quoting politicians or things they have seen or heard. But a survey in the UK recently makes the claim that the general public is wrong about nearly everything. I'm beginning to think this might not be just a UK thing. What's you thoughts on how you think your countries citizens might answer similar question. British public wrong about nearly everything, survey shows Research shows public opinion often deviates from facts on key social issues including crime, benefit fraud and immigration |

No, not wrong. It's an old tactic used by Britain during their empire building days: - Divide & Conquer. Unfortunately, the rest of the world has cottoned onto that & using it themselves. |

Yes, can you say MSNBC? Not sure how widely MSNBC is viewed by the British public (which was surveyed for this article). Personally I suspect that Lord Rothermere is more likely to blame. I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ... |

There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. Statistics can prove or disprove anything if applied carefully. It also comes down to, how much do we trust Government statistics in the first place. Take this: Benefit fraud: the public think that £24 of every £100 of benefits is fraudulently claimed. Official estimates are that just 70 pence in every £100 is fraudulent - so the public conception is out by a factor of 34. Seems clear enough, but it doesn't mention how they define fraudulent, also, is fraudulently the same as wrongfully? Personally, i think there are many thousands of people wrongfully claiming benefits, however, those people are not necessarily fraudulently claiming said benefits. People who can work but are just lazy, so deliberately foul up in interviews so as to go on claiming 'jobseekers' (hah!) allowance. That's wrong, but not fraud. Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

MSNBC is an American basic cable and satellite news television channel that is owned by the NBCUniversal News Group, a unit of the NBCUniversal Television Group division of NBCUniversal. The channel features news, information, and political opinion programming. Its name was derived from the most common abbreviations for Microsoft and the National Broadcasting Company. MSNBC and msnbc.com were founded in 1996 as partnerships of Microsoft and General Electric's NBC unit, which is now NBCUniversal. The online partnership of msnbc.com ended on July 16, 2012 and the site was rebranded as NBCNews.com Microsoft and MSNBC ended their partnership back on July 16th, 2012. Source |

the general public is wrong about nearly everything. I'm beginning to think this might not be just a UK thing. We are very fortunate here in Canada, our government never lies to citizens, and our large businesses and banks tend to take only the bare minimum in profit to keep their operations going. Our government knows that an informed population is a happier population and that makes it much easer to provide services to all of us. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons Canada is such a wonderful country regardless of the some what marginal climate, is because the people always get a square deal from each other. Knowing these things as Canadians do, goes a long way toward answering the question of why so many other people want to immigrate to our happy little Kingdom, as our joy can't be hidden from other perceptive peoples. |

Most Americans hate math, can't spell and couldn't locate their state on a blank map of North America. Heck, I think most of them believe too much of what they see on TV is real, such as werewolves and vampires. That's how politicians manage to keep getting re-elected time after time despite their uninspiring activities in Washington. Point #1: Many of our founders predicted that our nation's days were numbered. Name a country that has not changed its governmental form since the US was formed. Pretty much all have.
Haven't been to Wichita Falls lately have you? Texas is still strongly red for many reasons. Poor education system, ignorant politicians, ignorant constituents, belief in a dead party that not only doesn't support 99% of those that insist on voting Red but kicks them in the teeth when they do so. It's quite disturbing to watch.
From? what was a poor quality of life, education, and loss of livelihood. As you said all these layabouts just need to get off their asses and get hired into a high paying job so we won't have to worry about poverty ever again. makes sense if you didn't have that Nasty Capitalism that demands low wage workers to supply products at a low price so the middle income and above earners can afford a product. Or am I missing something about Capitalism. Or are you working under a different form of Capitalism that we don't know about. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face.
