Message 1387976 - Posted: 5 Jul 2013, 13:06:32 UTC

I have just started getting some WU errors on one of my computers.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=5448231

It is an older computer. OS is Win XP SP4.
All of the problem WU seem to be VLAR WU.
I am using the latest Lunatics apps.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Ron K.

You wrote, it's an older computer.

Check the temperatures, look inside for dust bunnies and make sure, the fans are all running at desired speeds. Maybe also, the PSU has gone weak with dry capacitors and doesn't supply stabilized voltages anymore.

To be continued... :?
Aloha, Uli

Thanks for giving me a place to start. I will do some further investigating.
It seems strange that I get errors on VLAR WU only. Non VLAR WU and Einstein WU have run ok in the same time period.

It is very strange and I have no useful ideas why. The tasks which have errored have all run for a considerable time first, enough to exercise all the used code paths many times.

I will note that the application is actually stock Windows 7.00 being run under anonymous platform. That's how the v0.41 Lunatics installer provides a usable v7 app for hosts which don't have at least SSE2.

This computer only has SSE. I am planning to eventually replace it, but I do not have a time frame yet.

Is this your CPU
http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K7/AMD-Sempron%202800+%20-%20SDA2800DUT3D%20(SDA2800BOX).html

Did you check for overheating?

This CPU do not have internal sensor but SIV have to show any motherboard sensor:
http://www.rh-software.com/

It will show also CPU MHz, RAM timings, voltages, ...
See if all is at the specifications (not overclocked, not undervolted, ...)

Another Computing Error on a VLAR work unit. Memory stress test passed, CPU temps have not changed, no over clocking on CPU. Non VLAR work units run fine, Einstein WU run fine. I'm lost!!!!

This is just a WAG, and I saw that you already stress tested the RAM. Would you consider investing in a second 512 MB stick of RAM? Replace the one you have with a new stick.

On the other hand, for about 210 dollars you can have this intel: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=XW4400-C2D24-MAR-2R&cat=SYS
or
you can have another quad-core phenom: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=DC5850MT-QC230-MAR-R&cat=SYS

I want to thank everybody for their assistance in this matter.
I see the writing on the wall and think after 9 years of service, it's time to retire this dinosaur. I'm working on building a new system around a i5-4670K processor and a Asus Z87-A motherboard.
