Why should it calm down, the two adversarial sides have lots of weapons, lots of money, and lots of people. To a degree it suggests along with other conflicts in the Middle East, that there are alternative methods to an excess of population in the region absent birth control.

Just let them get on with it, to interfere will only lead us to becoming a
permanent enemy in the eyes of one of these two sides involved.

I agree. let them kill each other off. We should stop sending them money so they can like US. The idiots have oil. Why should we give them billions?

The West is broke at the moment, all governments surviving on masses of
borrowed money. None can afford to get involved in a heavy fight for the
increased debt levels will break the country. This is not a 1930's depression
when government bank balances were pretty healthy. But a 2000+ year depression
where all governments are basically bust. So having a big war to draw your
economies out of a depression will today have the reverse effect.

Image how we felt in 1956, being about 300 mile south of Egypt, with the shortest sea route cut off.

Until the Suez canal is blocked then.

Since the pro-Euro brigade like to expound the virtues of how much we depend
on being members because 60% of our exports go to Europe, then the closing
of the Suez canal wont pose much of a problem for us here in the UK. Of course,
if the canal did get blocked then I suspect the true meaning behind this 60%
would soon become aparent. Because a large chunk of that 60% actually is
forward transit goods, passing through Europe first then out to the rest of
the world. But still, if the canal was blocked then this time around someone
else can sort the problem out. how about a joint Sino-USA operation.

LOL, yeah what about it. jeez we have our guts hated by the whole world and you want us to stick our nose into something that benifits you in Europe?
Get some balls and tell Egypt that if trade is blocked you will open the canal by force.

Im getting damn tired of the US as being the worlds police force. The UK drew the lines in the dessert its about time you took responsability for it. Oh sorry France dug that damn ditch in the first place. let them deal with it.

Now-now James, the latter bit was meant to be taken "tongue in cheek". We did
try to take it by force back in the 50's along with France but we both came
unstuck....we could have done with a little help from our friends but that's
another story. Just got to hope that the past does not rear it's ugly head
again....could end up with a few red faces around.
p.s. we still like your guts so you have one friend at least.

Don't you think it might have changed the situation we ended up with Egypt and its neighbours since then if the canal had been controlled by the UK, France and their friends since '56?
