Ever since v7 WU's started going out, my RAC has dropped like a stone. I have no intel CPU's that can do AVX and the few AMDs I have only go as high as their SSSE4.1 or what not. Why are my systems delivering such low throughput? Anyone care to guess? |

Why are my systems delivering such low throughput? Anyone care to guess? Unfortunately, it's not a guess. In other threads this has been thoroughly vented. IF you are doing only MB, your RAC will go down to approx. 1/2 of what it was before. This is because there is more work/WU and because Credit New doesn't handle the extra WU size well - doesn't grant more credit just because you did more work, or at least not enough more to make up for the extra work in the WU. AP WUs fare somewhat better, but not much... Read the thread "Observation of CreditNew Impact" if you want the gory details. |

My RAC is just a bouncing about. Drops for a bit, and then a few APs ring in and it jumps back up. Not the nearly 600k I was approaching before v7, but not bad. Like I said......all just a relevant thingy. We all know we are doing as much work as we were before.. "Got them steadily depressing, low down, mind messing, crunching at the carwash blues........" I would suggest to run the Lunatics installer. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I would suggest to run the Lunatics installer. IIRC, since the current stock MB apps are pretty much the same as the "new" Lunatics ones, I don't believe this will help him much. |

I would suggest to run the Lunatics installer. It would because stock CPU apps aren`t that optimized. 4 of his hosts are CPU only tho. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

The "balance" (if I can use that term loosely) that existed between v6 and AP does not exist between v6 and v7, nor between AP and v7. If you cease doing v7 work units, your daily credits (and hence RAC) will go up. Limit yourself to setiathome_enhanced work units (and AP if so desired). cheers |

Why are my systems delivering such low throughput? Anyone care to guess? And how is that a viable option? S@H Enhanced MB (aka v6) is no longer being split - only MB v6 tasks are time-out/error resends, which will only be around for another couple of months. As thoroughly discussed in other threads, the problem is only partly CreditNew. The MB v7 tasks now do more science calculations, so intentionally take longer to process. This was expected to reduce tasks-per-day and RAC for many if not most crunchers. The over-reaction of CreditNew reducing actual credit grants made the initial drop larger, but may now finally be returning to close to pre-transition levels. But a reduction in through-put and RAC WAS expected when MB v7 rolled out. MB v7 is what we have now. MB v6 will be gone in a few months. Telling people NOT to crunch v7 is not a good answer. Telling people NOT to crunch v7 is not a good answer. + 1 Donald ! If everybody does the same thing, we shall not move forward and the RAC will fall even more. And then we calculate better since v7. To lose a few RAC for the benefit of the scientific efficiency is the price to be paid. And nevertheless I adore the RAC and I saw that of my team melting away... Hang on ! :) |

As stated before, the kitties are accepting any and all WUs the servers wish to send them. AP, MB, v6, v7....... I'll crunch them all. The kitties are not about to get picky about what they process for the sake of a few points of RAC one way or the other. Get the work done, and the creds will sort themselves out sooner or later. My rac is still falling, I'm doing optimized cpu work only until, I can put in new thermal pads and heatsink compound on My Zotac IE GTX580 card, as without doing any crunching the card has been very stable. But any work on the card will most likely wait until August 2013. I have the heatsink compound AS5, but alas no Koolance 0.7mm thick thermal pads. Thanks to all the replies. I will consider looking into the opinions and options provided. I'm sure there is a bottom my RAC will hit once work has been more evenly distributed and credited. My only concern is that v7 work represents the next level upon which a system must have a certain quality of CPU instruction set extension. A good friend runs a single Ivy-Bridge based system with a reasonably powerful Nvidia graphics card and is simply dominating RAC right now. I can only assume that the addition of AVX optimization is the root cause of this. Much like running a system with only SSE quickly becomes pointless, I see this a very much a similar issue. Thank you again for your responses. |
