Lets see, believe Al Gore, or a natural cycle that can be seen and called real science? Think I'll believe the bugs.

I tend to think some of us give ourselves way too much credit for our impact on nature. Only time will tell. It's one thing to clean up our act, which I think is to everyone's benefit but when it comes to spending precious resources on trying to put things back the way they were it's undoable and a waste of time.

Try talking to Al Gore about that........
It is simply beyond anything that man can do or undo.
Wasting resources trying to sequester CO2 is NOT going to impact climate change at this point. It is pointless to try. I have planted a few new trees in my yard that shall do more than anything Gore can envision.
I have this big beautiful oak tree in my front yard sucking up all the CO2 you can imagine.
God and the squirrels planted that one for me. I simply chose to mow around it as a sprout. It is now taller than I am.

Preparing for the inevitable change, however, is something that might warrant some further efforts. But that is not what the Goremeister is about, unless I am mistaken.

Bob, some of the successes we've in the Pacific NW in restoring wild salmon runs totally refutes your broad statement.

So... Lets get this trash argument straight eh?

So the carefree selfish polluters advocates are trying to con us with the old silliness that our industry just can't possibly be polluting the atmosphere(!), yet in any case it's all too late(?!!), and the Earth has been worse than this in the past so it doesn't matter anyhow?!!! As if!

Looks like there's a few blind ignorant wreckers who want to have their cake and eat it, vs the rest of the world wishing to keep the world livable for Mankind and the other richness of life we enjoy around us.

Is it Gods way for His/Her demon spawn to trash the Garden of Eden?

And all for the corruption of money?

Hell! Where is the good church when needed?!

Seventeen years is not a long time when compared to the "short term" predictions that are being made of +1 to +3 degrees in the 50 to 100 year timescale. Even then this is a global average, the best models are indicating some areas of the globe will actually cool in that time frame (I live in one that is indicated to cool by maybe 2-6 degrees in the next 50 years) while other areas will see an increase of the same magnitude or more. I believe the polar regions are looking at about 10 degrees. So some places will see hardly any change at all.

Indeed so. However, those few places hold on at the expanse of other areas suffering radical and 'rapid' change...

Reckon you both missed Al Gore's little program where he sweated his butt off explaining how the earth will warm up.

Fact is, the earth was a lot warmer and the earth has been a lot cooler. What cooled and warmed the earth was the sun, our star.

Ice cores from all over the world and mud cores from the bottom of the sea tell us that CO2 and all other warming gases have risen and dropped over long periods of time and short periods of time. All of this before man was even on this planet.

It takes 500 years for our oceans to scrub CO2 from our atmosphere. This is but one natural cycle of our planet.

What I'm real tired of is people blaming man for a natural cycle, and then attempting to make money off of that natural cycle of nature.

What I'm real tired of is people blaming man for a natural cycle, and then attempting to make money off of that natural cycle of nature.

And the 97% of real scientists that see all the fossil fuel industry sponsored FUD and conspiracy sponsored FUD polluting the news with disinformation must be horrified at how the general public can be fooled and bullied into suffering continued criminal profits for a political and industrial elite.

Meanwhile, wildlife and everyone else pay for that pollution.

The world has been very different in the past. However, never has such rapid change been forced up our planet.

Really all natural? Really??

Who profits from ever increasing atmospheric pollution?...

Our planet will continue. Not necessarily as we would like it...

You seen such contrasts in the current news before?

India floods: 'Thousands still missing' in Uttarakhand

Western States' Heat Wave Turns Deadly; No Relief In Sight

USA Floods: Body of Man Killed in Northeast Flooding Is Found

Canada's power supplies could be hit for months by floods

Pakistan wilts under record heat wave

Such extremes are predicted to become more extreme and more frequent as a consequence of forced Global Warming. How long can the FUD ignore such self-inflicted calamity?

Really, must I point out we have only been on the radar for 120,000 years. During that 120,000 years we have seen Ice Glaciers a mile high in my state of Illinois retreat all the way back to the North Arctic Circle. Being how it is we have only been here 120,000 we have not had time to effect the weather in any way shape or form.

I'm tired of people like yourself taking credit for and making money off of a natural cycle of our planet. Mother nature does not like to be fooled or ripped off. And you're not fooling me.

For that period through to the start of our Industrial Revolution, I fully agree with you.

Since the 1800's and our subsequent explosion in industry, population, and pollution, the story is very unnatural. Mankind dominates.

We directly measure the increasing pollution load in our atmosphere every day. Analyzing that pollution shows it to come from our industrial chimneys, directly.

Our industry is now bigger than the planet's atmosphere. Just as paper mills pollute ponds and rivers into a non-existence, so is our combined industry doing that to our finite atmosphere, and ever faster.

Don't believe it is so?

Just look around you. You don't need to look that much further than your own back yard now.

Note that "Global Warming" isn't that the earth is noticeably warmed in terms of temperatures that can be felt. I'm sure you wouldn't notice a few fractions temperature increase. What Global Warming does is to change the climate for an area and to make the local weather ever more extreme and rapidly variable. Destructively so as we are now ever more often seeing.

And for the religious: Why despoil God's creation?

Martin,

Not true. The ice melted long before 120,000 years ago and mankind had no effect on the mile high ice that stopped right on top of my former home town of Neoga Il. The smoke you talk about happened in the years you say but landed on ice that had long ago retreated past the arctic circle.

It seems you misunderstand natural cycles of nature. I will try harder to help you understand. It bothers me that you attribute natural cycles to mankind and allow people to rob you blind like Al Gore.

Cicadas are very peculiar bugs. They know prime numbers and they only come out to breed after a certain temperature has been met. I am certain what that specific temperature is but I'm certain that during any given year that temperature will be met. What would be more interesting is determining how much earlier in the year the cicada are coming out to breed. Now in all that diatribe not once was it discussed when the cicada come out normally. I'm betting its well documented.

Lets also not forget its Global climate change. the climate is changing. From migratory birds flying further north to avoid predators to plant life showing up further and further north.

Of note is that this year has been exceptionally cool in the spring and summer temperatures are quite moderate. This doesnt mean climate change has stopped. It just means that we've not had a severe spring and summer like we have been having.

Just for giggles get your Texas map out. Draw a line from Wichita Falls down throught western Ft Worth and continue south. Anything west of that line is in a severe drought. Most lakes are at 40% capacity or lower.

What we are currently seeing is a mild bump in the road. sadly you ignore the long term and just look at this short term cooling cycle.

Quite honestly the author seems surprised that the Cicada would spawn at all. that we wouldn't have a change of season. You realize that winter is cooler than summer. When the temperature rises the cicada come out. Its not a miracle or a proof against science its nature working as it should

There are indeed natural cycles and natural change of climate throughout the history of Earth. The example you mention is before our time. That is also a time far in the past where conditions were not favorable for our present day existence.

We know a lot about past conditions on Earth. We experience today the benign pleasant conditions that let us live well today. Why would we wish to force such calamitous change as we have seen has happened in the past?

The climate changes that we are measurably forcing by the vast power of our ever expanding industrial atmospheric pollution is very much not a natural cycle. This is the first of its kind.

So it all really ain't so?

[Recent] Climate extremes are 'unprecedented'

The Earth experienced unprecedented recorded climate extremes during the decade 2001-2010...

... There was an increase in deaths from heatwaves over that decade.

This was particularly pronounced during the extreme summers in Europe in 2003 and in the Russian Federation during 2010.

But despite the decade being the second wettest since 1901 (with 2010 the wettest year recorded) fewer people died from floods than in the previous decade.

Better warning systems and increased preparedness take much of the credit for the reduced deaths. ...

... The decade was the warmest for both hemispheres and for both land and ocean surface temperatures. The record warmth was accompanied by a rapid decline in Arctic sea ice, and accelerating loss of mass from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and from glaciers.

Global mean sea levels rose about 3mm per year - about double the observed 20th century trend of 1.6mm per year. Global sea level averaged over the decade was about 20cm higher than in 1880.

The report notes that the high temperatures in the decade were achieved without a strong episode of the El Nino current which typically warms the world. It says that a strong El Nino episode would probably have driven temperatures even higher.

Although overall temperature rise has slowed down since the 1990s, the WMO says temperatures are still rising because of greenhouse gases from human society.

The WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud said: “Natural climate variability, caused in part by interactions between our atmosphere and oceans means that some years are cooler than others. On an annual basis, the global temperature curve is not a smooth one. On a long-term basis the underlying trend is clearly in an upward direction, more so in recent times.” ...

This """weather cycle""" isn't too unlike the cycle that we had in the 50's. matter of fact the forest fires we have today are ot at all unlike what we had in the 50's, right down to the fire jumpers killed. Sad story but never the less true.

Hot water in the alantic, cooler in the west waters. Subs and ships have been keeping records for many, many years now. The waters are the second pusher of weather systems next to the sun/our star.

Still not buying your line of thought.

Welcome to try again if you like........
