I just checked my results and it showed 32 AP tasks with the message "error while computing". I traced it to my desktop which has 2 processors. Both are running seti tasks. In addition there is a huge AP file (163+ hrs) running on my GPU for a few minutes before it errors. I was told that my GPU was too old (something about cal?) and couldn't be used.
Should I go into my preferences and just disable the GPU?

Yes
There are problems with this app for older GPUs (this app is known as CAL/Brook/Hybrid)

Even if they fix the app the amount of GPU memory (256MB) may be a problem.
And even if everything will work OK only ~20% of the GPU will be used (by design)
(the rest 80% of the computations will be on the CPU)

I'm still getting tasks and errors for my desktop's GPU. I thought I had it stopped, but guess I need a little help doing so.
How do I stop it?

I just went in to the activity drop down and suspended GPU. Will that be enough?

Use ATI GPU no

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project

This will stop getting new tasks for ATI (remember to enable it again if you change the GPU)
