V7 Cuda50 tasks not in a happy place

I have a Windows 7 AMD Phenom II X4 840 box with a GT240-based Zoltac graphics card, been working well for years... until V7. All software and drivers are up-to-date. I initially had a lot of failures due to the AVG virus issue but either I now have enough exceptions in place or the problems's been fixed... haven't had failures to start tasks because it wouldn't let the .exe run or download failures because it wouldn't let the download write the .exe for a while now. The problem I'm still having is that some tasks, possibly only cuda50 because that's what I've mostly seen it on, do not get running properly. The task says its started, it accumulates elapsed time but the Progress never moves off 0.000%. After many times the estimate, it gets killed on a 'time exceeded'. If I catch it before its failed and restart BOINC a time or two, the same WU will then start and run to completion normally. Anyone have suggestions as to how I could address this? ID: 1384557 ·  |

Anybody? I can't babysit this and can't keep letting it waste hours of GPU computing so I'm now aborting cuda50 tasks whenever I log in and notice one stuck and others in the pipe. P.S. After the most recent abort, it picked up a cuda42 task and that's running fine. ID: 1384843 · |

Maybe you just use the Lunatics installer and choose the correct app for your card. That would be my suggestion. Run the Lunatics installer and lock in 4.2, if that seems to be running fine. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster

I would suggest selecting either Cuda 2.3 or Cuda 3.2 and not Cuda 4.2. My GT240 seems to prefer this over Cuda 4.2. Of course you may have different results. My GT240 crunches all Cuda variations, although Cuda 5.0 and especially Cuda 2.2 are very slow. Jury is still out on which is better (Cuda 2.3 or Cuda 3.2).
