Anybody out there into Ham Radio? Just got my license a few weeks ago, and there's a lot of stuff that kind of goes hand in hand with Seti. Lots of satellites and lots of things to listen to. Just wondering. KK6ESZ 73 |

Growing up, I had 4 neighbors who were hams - two worked microwve transmission for AT&T. Started learning code from them, but never got my Novice ticket. Understand they did away with the code requirement. Ran CB for a lot of years - KDLJ-3364. There are several regulars on this board who display radio call-signs in their signatures. edit] or screen-names. Look for N9JFE, David from Naperville, Il. Yes, I am a ham, but I'm not active as such. The mobile rig in my car spends all its time scanning railroads. Ditto my several HTs. My only sub-144MHz rig is a 10 meter mobile... gathering dust in the basement. I learned code well enough to pass the novice test, then quickly forgot it again. After they dropped the code requirement, I upgraded from Tech to General, but I kind of feel like a fraud. I don't keep up with any of the hobby news, even the regs. I've always been into radios. I have Cb's ,scanners, old tube sw/broadcast radio, and now a ham radio. Always wanted to get the license, but somehow it never became a priority. Took the class and got my Tech license. Next step is the General class. Anyway it's a lot of fun and I also get to listen for who knows what. It's all part of my listening and monitoring station here in my garage. Hey it keeps me busy. :-)> |

I am a ham operater and have been for about 35 years. I have a extra class lic. and work all ham bands. I like working 15 and 20 meters most, I have worked all around the world on both of them. When I was in Navy Mars I hated working 80 meters but that's what they used, noise in the summer was real bad. Also worked with 2000 watts PP which made it nice too. :) I needed more room for my antenna farm which was really nice to me but tother said it looked too much. LOL Cordless phones I blew away back in those days. LOL KE5TH (I'm in the book) |

Well I'm just starting out, and have a long way to go. It's so interesting to me, I doubt I will ever Tire of it. Since I'm disabled, and unable to get around much, this seems to be the perfect Hobby for me. There is just so much to learn. Thats the fun part for me. I'm really hands on. I also like to listen, but the voice part is going to be cool when I get an HF Rig. I made a few contacts last weekend during the Field day event. Now I'm itching to get my General class ticket and a radio. Gotta get the YL into it so the $$$$ won't freak her out. 73 KK6ESZ |

I started off slow and simple with a simple 15 meter dipole and man did I get the calls back. I was living in NM at the time which made it a prime contact everywhere. NZ, Aust, Ch and even the south pole, Sea World was down there and needed a vox to Cal which I did. They said I was bombing in there and couldn't hear anyone else, please hook them up. weekends were no sleep. :) RTTY was big and voice, code, plus packet, I had a blast. 73 KE5TH |

Ha Ha, that's funny stuff. Yeah I'm having a blast so far and I've really just been using the 2 meter HT. Gotta start somewhere. Now I've got the little HT, My homebrew Seti cruncher, and a old Cb base station that's not connected to a real antenna yet. I'm getting my shack started. Such as It is. I'm having fun , so thats all that matters. 73 KK6ESZ |
