Hi,

I have been writing at BoincStat's Forum/BAM's Forum for several days now. I'm trying to post my problem here in case somebody has an idea what to do!

I'm using several computers now. All Ubuntu 12.04.2 and BOINC v.7.1.10 & v.7.0.27. Servers only running seti@home...

My problem is, that I have been using BOINC by attaching directly to projects for some time now. Because I have got some additional computers now, RACK mounted servers, which are running Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 and therefore using the boinccmd tool/command line tool to control BOINC, I would like to use an "Account Manager". I chose BAM, and followed the "HowTo". I created a BAM-account and when I was prompted with the issue of "email-address already in use" it didn't occur to me that I just might was making a mistake! After making the BAM account I tried to connect the computers to BAM and they appeared under "Host list" but stats from the projects was empty. No credits/stats displayed.
This is when it occurred to me that I just might had made an error. Either I had an old BAM account created earlier on with the right information, the username I use in my seti account, email-address and password or else it is possible to log into BAM using the username and password from my seti account. Never the less I had made a new BAM account and now when I'm connecting the computers to account manager/BAM using the "right username" (the first one/old one) the doesn't show when I log into BAM and check under "Host list" - but when I log into the "wrong username" the newly created" the host appears just fine, but without the credits/stats...
Then for the last 3-4 days I have been trying everything. Now I have nuked some of the computers, reinstalled the OS/Ubuntu and the BOINC manager, connected to a project and then told BOINC manager to "connect to account manager"/BAM with the right username, not the new one, but still no luck. And in the event-log it's shown that BOINC connected to the "wrong username" even though I entered the right one connecting to the account manager. Something is really rotten here... Either BAM "remembers" computer mac-address or maybe the IP-address and totally disregards what input you are entering when connecting to BAM/account manager.
BUT, I tried one more thing, I mounted a brand new RACK-server and installed Ubuntu OS and the BOINC-client using the boinccmd command line tool. When I joined the account manager using the "right username" I succeeded!!! It appeared on the "Host list" but as I described above, none of the other computers does. Not even after deleting everything, reinstalled Ubuntu and BOINC manager...
So please help me to get the rest of my computers attached to the "right username"...

Kind Regards,
Dan/Denmark

If "Servers only running seti@home" you don't need BAM, just detach from BAM and attach directly to seti@home

(I don't know how to detach from BAM (I don't use BAM) but maybe the command is:
boinccmd --quit_acct_mgr
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Boinccmd_tool
)

Account manager may only be useful/easier if you run many projects:
"if you run several projects, try using an account manager such as GridRepublic or BAM!."
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Main_Page

You probably may find some answers here:

Hi,

Thanks, but its not how to disconnect from the manager which is the problem, its how to connect to BAM if you created a new, second username.
But your command is right, boinccmd --quit_acct_mgr is the command to use if you are running a non graphical environment.

Here's athe problem from the beginning discussed in BOINCstats Forum:

Thanks for your reply ;)

From your post I can say that "MAC-address or IP-number" have no influence.
(after all they may change easily (e.g. new router))

There have to be some file with name like:
account_boincstats.com_en_bam.xml
(I 'forged' the name from what files I have for projects like: account_asteroidsathome.net_boinc.xml)
If such file exists it have to contain all the info BAM needs to identify you.

(But I have to admit I have no any experience with BAM and how it works.

If this is correct:
"2. Let BAM! find your account in all existing projects, using the "Find account" button."
and "Find account" button is somewhere on http://boincstats.com/en/bam/
this means that boincstats site directly connects to (all known) projects' sites and try to log-in your accounts there.
It (boincstats.com/en/bam/) will try to use your email/password to log-in to every project even if you don't have account there (and even if you never heard of those projects)
(so your local computer is out of the equation - you may do "Find account" button e.g. from your friend's computer)
(all the above is my speculation (not based on any experience with BAM) and is based only on the claim that there exist some (unknown for me) "Find account" button on the BAM website)

I still don't understand why you need BAM for only one project.
)

Hi,

I have several projects. Normally 2 projects. seti@home and asteroids@home as written in the posts (the links to those 3 posts) ;)

I had 1 BAM-account/username (apparently) with my email-address. Wrongfully I created another BAM-account/username and connected the computers to this BAM-account manager. Then the computers appeared but no stats/credits. Then I noticed the error, that I created new BAM account/username. I was suppose to use the first account I created because this is the one with my primary email address. The email-address I used to connect to projects in the first place. But when I connect to account-manager, using the first username/BAM account the system does NOT connect to BAM using the username I entered, it uses the wrong username/BAM-account. E.g. I choose "connect to account-manager", enter "Account-A-DanHansen" as username, but in the "event log" the system connected to "Account-B-DanHansen"! And this wrong username/account was created with an secondary email-address which is not the one used when I connected to the projects in the first place. So, when I log in to BAM using "Account-A-DanHansen" (the right account with the email used to connect to projects) the computers does not appear in the "host list" and when I log in to BAM using "Account-B-DanHansen" the computers appears in the "host list" but no results/stats/credits is shown.

I have read about some people which has the same problem, but it was old posts, and I hoped that somehow this bug was fixed in the newer version of the boinc software. The problem is, you enter one username when connecting to account manager but it connects to another account using another username! Its listed in the event-log! I tried everything! reinstalling systems completely, but first when I used a brand new computer, which never used BOINC, and never connected to an account-manager using the second wrong username ""Account-B-DanHansen"" I succeeded! Then this new computer succeeded in connecting to the right BAM account "Account-A-DanHansen" and appears in the "host list".

The conclusion is, if you connect to a account manager, using a second username/a second BAM account you are f.....! It never forgets this account! Even though you write one username it connects to the other!

I can't explain any better than this!

I really hope there is somebody who can tell us what to do..

The only fix right now, is to buy new computers! And then be very careful not to use the wrong username when connecting to the BAM-account! If you were just able to delete the wrong account! But you are not able to do this! IT's impossible!

Looking so much forward to hear from the developers of BAM..

Kind Regards,
Dan/Denmark

PS. This post will posted in the boincstats forum as well, because this was where the discussion started.
