Are you facing temperatures in the mid to high 30s? I wish you all the best over summer, hopefully you will be able to pop in and contribute to the board's. When the weather gets cooler you will be welcomed back with open arms. Thank you for all the help that you have provided me and other members of the Seti community.

I've never had that problem myself but then if you have all those rigs in 1 room then I can understand the problem.

Cheers.

Mark, you must be kidding me my friend, 83f is "cold" here...
My farm normal external temp is about >95f or more...
and no AC so you could feel my pain...

No AC here either.
I have one window unit, but it's kinda pointless running it with a few thousand watts of heat being generated by the computers.

Don't feel bad Mark, I will be feeling your pain soon and my office temps will rise to mid-80s/mid-90s w/ no a/c soon on the east coast. The machine on my desk will have its covers off and a ceiling fan & window fan sucking air out of the room to the outside. When the desk machine temps hit 80, I'll shut down BOINC until after sundown and start it back up. When the machine on the floor hits 80, I'll just shut the machine down.

Yup...
Ambient air cooling is all I got.
Two fans in the garage ceiling draw the hot air out and the cool air in through a window in the bathroom. They create quite a vacuum.

A fan at the ceiling off the crunching den tosses hot air to the garage. A box fan on the floor tosses the cooler air to the crunchers.

It's a science of my own that I have perfected over many years.
I have it to the point that I can run many killawatts of crunchers up to about 80f outside. And it's been a mercifully cool spring here.

And when I say killawatts, I mean killawatts.

I ran a 50amp 240v subfeed box to the living room where the crunchers reside a few years back. 6 15amp breakers, and last time I took out the ammeter, they were all running pretty tight. The Killawatt meter on my top rig with 3 580s shows 960 to 1050 watts. The breakers do get warm.

And you can almost make toast in the exhaust flow from a GTX580.
I really need about a dozen more 680s.

Since you guys are running some pretty... uh... extreme setups, whan kind of fan arrangement do you have in the chassis themselves?

I'm using dual 80 intakes (front, side) and an 80+120 output (rear, PSU) - but it follows that you guys have a more urgent need for airflow, so can probably suggest a more efficient configuration. :)

In my cases i use 2-4 12" fans (the same used on the big PSU´s) depends on the combination of the GPUs, 2 on the 690 and 4 on the 590.

But i use them to blow air to the GPU´s, I know that´s sounds wierd but i made several tests and that combination reduces the actual temp on the GPU´s, i belive that happens because most of my hosts uses 590/690 GPU´s and they need a lot more air flow to make it´s vapor chambers work better, someone else could explain why i realy don´t know and that´s sound wierd even for me.

Another set of 2 x12" fans to take care of the front exaust of the 590/690 GPU´s, this time normal exaust, the rear exaust i leave to the GPU internal fan.

And of course i run EVGA precision to speed up the internal fan.

By doing that i manage to mantain the 590/580 GPU´s on the 75-80C range an the 670-690 on 68-72C even in the summer.

But remember i live in a hot tropical country (ok not in the hottest part), most of the year the external temp is in the range of 30C or more

Mine are all side-off.
You cannot run a GPU that hard and try to contain the heat in a case.

All are running stock cooling on the GPUs, with the fans set to maximum.
CPUs are a mix of Thermaltake units, some of which have been running for years now. Just takes a bit of fur removal now and again.
A couple have Thermalmax.

Every single one has a PC Power and Cooling Silencer PSU.
I think the oldest one has been at it for over 5 years.
You have to trust your PSU, and I trust those implicitly.

I am not joking about that. When a rig crashes, the first thing I do is pull the fan. Usually a bunch of kitty fur in there. All they have to do is walk by the thing. Ever watch a kitty walk in the sunlight?

Yeah, used to keep cats as a kid. Well, they kept me. You know what I mean.

I'm in the habit of pulling the case and cleaning the dust out every 6 weeks anyway, have a toothbrush holstered inside the case ready to go.

You are right Mike but i can´t leave the case open in an office enviroment, so i need to find a way to try to do that.

Both of my machines have the same basic configuration.

Cooler Master HAF full tower (240mm fan front & side)
Corsair H-70 LCS with 120mm in push/pull - controlled by Intel Desktop Control Center in auto mode
Ultra X4 1200 watt PSU
i7/950 has dual EVGA GTX660SC @ 2Gb
i7/930 has EVGA GTX460SE @ 1Gb
GPUs are controlled by EVGA Precision X with auto fan control.

My main problem is that my office sits on the side of the house that gets the most sun, but very little breeze and no a/c. Normally I have the sides of the case on for the machine that sits on my desk. But when it gets above 80f I get better cooling with the sides off as the ceiling fan circulate the air and the window fan sucks it out to the outside.

One of these days when my money is right, I want to upgrade the H-70s to H-100 or H-100i.
