Gentlemen, and Ladies,

The staff at Berkeley doesn't always prioritize the way I would like for them to, and sometimes that just frustrates me to distraction. I have for years HATED "Credit New."

Okay, so big fat hairy deal. I'm a member of a large club.

In the last months we have gone from not being able to download the work we can get to the point that you have to be quick with the transfers tab if you want to see a transfer. Remember the blisters from the "Retry" button?

We have gone from not having an AP application that even might work on an NVIDIA GPU to having one that usually works and Raistmer's working on it very hard to make it always work in every case.

We've gone from having almost nobody able to easily use the best optimized applications to having Jason's best current versions be automatically distributed to everyone who can run them.

We've got new AP processing apps that are better than the old.

We've got a shiny new optimized application installer that took a few folks quite a bit of their "spare time" to create and, due to odd circumstances the hosting of those apps and installer had to change and someone had to do that.

There is a point where we all need to celebrate some rather impressive gains "our" project has made pretty recently. This thing's operating better than it has in years and doing better E.T. hunting than it ever has.

I'm not polyanna. I've got a couple of pretty serious bones to pick with whoever it is that's responsible. And I'm not going to blindly rah-rah the whole thing, either.

But AT SOME POINT we are going to begin chasing-off our benefactors because it becomes so unpleasant to deal with us. If you ask me (and I know nobody did) I would have said, "Kill the credits, get the server situation fixed!" I'd have said, "I'll take far less credit if we could just get some better detection going because we aren't finding anything." I'd have said, "Good grief all this file editing is taking too long. Can't someone write an installer for the optimized applications?" I'd have asked, "Are we never going to have an AstroPulse application for NVIDIA to get this stuff crunched faster?"

YES, there is more to do, but @#$%^, look at what these folks have done!

Thank them for Pete's sake and give 'em a break! They'll see to it that the credit situation gets fixed. Let 'em take a breath.

A breath and a bow!

That's my opinion for whatever it is worth.

I'm marking my calendar to start really griping again in August. I'm going to give it a rest for the summer.

Thank you guys! You are making very good progress and making it easier and better for me. I appreciate all the hard work and candles burned at both ends and weekends foregone and dinners eaten cold and T.V. not-watched and spouses unseen and home repairs unmade and ashtrays un-emptied and caffeine consumed and ethanol unconsumed. I appreciate your time and your energy, your passion for this work, and the financial sacrifices I'm sure you have made for the project's sake.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I wish I could give you a standing ovation that you could see.

I'm getting an inkling you're angry.

Understandably so. Compared to the carping and whining (whinging?) about credit and RAC, there has been relatively little said about the HUGE amount of work the (unpaid) Lunatics folks and the Beta testers did over the past, how many months?

The new stock v7 MB app with autocorrelation does about twice as much work as v6, but the estimates and runtimes on my P4 boxes are about the same as v6, and only slightly longer on my Mac G4s. Outstanding! Great work! Wish I could buy them all a beverage.......

Angry?

Me?

Nah.

I'm just thankful that - so far - these skilled and devoted people don't go find something fun to do with their time instead of helping us.

I am commenting and complaining elsewhere about credit.

But this has nothing to do with what the Lunatics team and all the people involved in the transition have done.
For what regards their share of work, the transition was seamless, applications are fast and efficient and they even brought back an easy installer.
Everything timely with the transition.
Not really easy to achieve. And they did it.

Therefore, I seize the occasion of this thread to shout a big Kudos for them!
