So I can assume that you have brought some checks in then . Well it's a start .

Medical records aren't going to show somebody that just losses it . And it won't stop it . The last guy that killed those kids used his mums guns didn't he ?

That what the main problem is there are just too many guns and there to easy to get . But if you now have police checks then there is hope .

Unless some lazy sheriff whom don't think it's part of his job to check people takes your gov to court again and uses your constitution to stop it I hope that doesn't happen thou .

Absolutely. And they don't have to violate any privacy and put diagnosis into in the master database. Just a yes/no tick and a reference # to a paper file so there is only one copy and access can be controlled.

And also juvenile criminal records. This crazy apparently had an extensive one, but it is sealed, so he would have looked clean on a check. That has to change.

The records system also needs to improve. I don't think I would want someone with a dozen arrests for drunk in public buying a gun. 99.9% of the time such an arrest does not lead to a conviction, they just keep you in the "drunk tank" until you sober up and let you go.

There are no sherrifs doing the back ground checks. You fill out the government form at the place of purcahse And they Fax or somehow electronicaly send it to the feds database for a yes or a no. Last time I bought a single shot .22 It took 30 days for the response to come back in the affirmative. Most times its instant.

And I think if a criminmals back ground can be checked so should a medical or mental health record should be included. Why is one open for the feds to check and not the other?

The states have no problem telling the world where a sex offender lives why not killers and mental whack jobs?
