6/5/2013 10:52:14 PM | | Running as a daemon Uninstall BOINC, reinstall it, third screen in the installer click Advanced. Next uncheck Service Install. And continue installation. When BOINC is installed as a service, Windows is running the limited user account in a different as where the drivers and services are run from. Therefore BOINC cannot recognize the drivers, thus cannot detect the GPU. |

Uninstall BOINC then uncheck "service install" - will try it. THZ |

AMD's OpenCL support in Windows XP stopped with Catalyst 12.1, any driver after that no longer has OpenCL support in Windows XP. But then, you say it's RV635 and RV650? Those are a HD3650 and a HD3850 card? These don't have OpenCL support, only Brook+ (CAL). And then you're still better off installing a low driver. See http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx for archived drivers. I'd go for 12.1 But they cannot be used on this project, although perhaps with the Lunatics Brook+ application. See this thread for more info on that and the other person trying to get old GPUs like that to work. |

This machine is used as Media Center 2005 for watching/DVR programs. Otherwise it is idle. I have loaded BOINC on it. Have two other machines running ASUS Motherboards and on same version Catalyst drivers. These gpus are correctly detected by BOINC both machines have gpus builtin on motherboard. Media Center 2005 machine has ASUS M2A-VM motherboard that has a buitin Radeon x1250 gpu (disabled/not in used). On PCIe x16 slot it has a ATI All-in-Wonder HD that has tv receiver(tuner) and RV635 gpu. GPU-Z correctly identifies the ATI All-in-Wonder HD as having a RV635. http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/13/06/07/efs.png Question is why BOINC is NOT detecting gpu - is the disabled motherboard x1250 gpu causing conflict? This ATI All-in-Wonder HD is NOT a plain HD3650 or HD3850 adapter. I cannot used the alternative Brook+ until BOINC identifies the gpu. I may have to downgrade to ealier version of Catalyst but hoping to stay with latest available drivers. Again thz for ideas and suggestions. |

I may have to downgrade to ealier version of Catalyst but hoping to stay with latest available drivers. Since 12.10 the Catalyst drivers are no longer updated for Windows XP. They are 'maintenance updates' only. You don't get the latest stability entries for games and programs in them anymore. Now, I looked deeper into these cards, and they may both be 3650s with a TV-tuner. How much memory is on either of them? |

Have two other machines running ASUS Motherboards and on same version Catalyst drivers. These gpus are correctly detected by BOINC both machines have gpus builtin on motherboard. The other computers in your account are running Windows Vista and Windows 7, both of which still contain the OpenCL component in the current drivers. As Jord said, the OpenCL component for Windows XP drivers has been removed from recent releases. Only older releases will contain the OpenCL SDK. Question is why BOINC is NOT detecting gpu - is the disabled motherboard x1250 gpu causing conflict? This ATI All-in-Wonder HD is NOT a plain HD3650 or HD3850 adapter. BOINC detects the presence of CUDA or OpenCL. If it does not detect the presence of CUDA or OpenCL, it will not crunch on them. See note above on why your Windows XP machine doesn't have OpenCL included. |

Thanks for the clearer explanation, Charlie. I must stress though that the RV635 is NOT OpenCL capable. OpenCL 1.0 support with the ATI Stream SDK v2.0 is only available for the following GPUs and newer: ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 5870 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 5850 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 5770 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 5750 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4890 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4870 X2 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4870 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4850 X2 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4850 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4830 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4770 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4670 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4650 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4550 ATI Radeonâ„¢ HD 4350 ATI FireProâ„¢ V8750 ATI FireProâ„¢ V8700 ATI FireProâ„¢ V7750 ATI FireProâ„¢ V5700 ATI FireProâ„¢ V3750 AMD FireStreamâ„¢ 9270 AMD FireStreamâ„¢ 9250 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4870 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4860 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4850 X2 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4850 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4830 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4670 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4650 ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4500 Series ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 4300 Series ATI Mobility FireProâ„¢ M7740 ATI Radeonâ„¢ Embedded E4690 Discrete GPU Meaning that OpenCL 1.0 support is on a minimum of HD4350. But also not here at Seti. The minimum AMD GPU you need here for OpenCL support is the HD4850 (RV770). Having said that, again, the Lunatics installer has a Brook+ Astropulse application that can run on AMD/ATi HD2xxx, HD3xxx and pre-APU onboard ATi GPUs. Which then needs a driver that does install CAL support. Now, it is possible that the All-in-Wonder cards just aren't capable of CAL (Brook+). |

The ATI All-in-Wonder HD has 512MB ref GPU-Z. Waste of gpu and memory - idle most of time. Will see if I can load VISTA or Win 7 to see if I get same Media Center functionality and the advantage of these later OSes. Stayed on XP MCE for use of tv tuners and DVR capabilities using other nonWindows DVR and media centers- got used to Catalyst Media Center 9.16 for DVR and streaming to household of time shifted programs using multiple tuners - clear cable, DTV of air(OTA DTV) etc. But first I'll drowngrade Catalyst. THZ for ideas and help. |

According to the information Jord posted, your All-in-Wonder still won't work even if you downgrade the driver due to your HD 3xxx series missing OpenCL support in the hardware. As Jord said, the best you can get on your HD 3xxx series is to use a special "Brook" app (ATi's proprietary API for crunching pre-OpenCL, not compatible with OpenCL apps) in order to utilize it. Since you wish to remain on XP, your best bet is to see if you can upgrade to an HD 4xxx series All-in-wonder if you want to use the stock OpenCL application, as the HD 4xxx series should still work with XP in the older Catalyst releases. |

HD 4xxx series All-in-wonder Those don't exist. The last All-in-Wonder was the HD3650. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-in-Wonder |

Ah. Well then a standard video card + TV tuner? Hauppauge makes some decent ones from what I hear. Don't know if he'd want to spend all that money in upgrading though. If not, then the Brook app is the only way to go, or not use the GPU at all. |

Without BOINC recognition of gpu aka "CAL: ATI GPU 0:" the system won't be able to use the Brook+ app. Is there a way to work around this? |

No. When BOINC doesn't know if your GPU is capable of doing anything, then how do you think it can be used? Have you tried the older drivers yet, 12.1 or before? |
