(day three, right?) I will keep an eye out for it, though. Still have several WU's to crunch before running on empty. Have just now set project to no new tasks (haven't received any in the last 5 hours anyway) and they should be out by early tomorrow a.m. |

Not that it helps, but you are not alone in the stratosphere. I am certainly not of the experience level as so many of the users on here(a great deal of the posts on here are in a language that is extraterrestrial Greek to me), I simply offer up my massively extra external storage space (Windows Xp Pro on an old Dell desktop) for use by the BOINC program. I thought there was a problem on my side with all the "Download failed" activity, until I read some of the other threads on here. Only thing I can do is wait patiently, unless someone puts up a link where I can go to initiate the download myself. Go on out and have a good old strawberry malt at an old fashioned ice cream parlor while you wait. Won't help at all, but wouldn't the down time be relaxing? :) |

Did any of you make sure you have Seti@Home v7 selected in the project preferences? If it's set to No, you can wait until the icecaps melt, but not get any of the v7 apps or work ever. Of course, if you're running the anonymous platform apps you either have to set NNT, empty your cache & report everything before deleting the app_info.xml file, restarting BOINC and then resetting the project. Or you add the new application names by hand in the app_info.xml file and download the apps manually. Or you wait until Lunatics release their .41 installer on Monday. As for continuous download problems, there's a way around: No need to stop BOINC, just let it try and retry. |

I thought there was a problem on my side with all the "Download failed" activity, until I read some of the other threads on here. In fact the problem on your side - Your ISP re-compresses .jpg files: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3024716015 Stderr output <core_client_version>7.0.64</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> app_version download error: couldn't get input files: <file_xfer_error> <file_name>seti_700.jpg</file_name> <error_code>-200</error_code> </file_xfer_error> </message> ]]> To remedy: Computing preferences: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=global At the very bottom set: Skip image file verification? Yes - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) |

I have decided to keep this posting within this thread, rather than create a new thread, since that prevents having to repeat information. Currently I am still experiencing "Download fail" errors. Based upon the information in this thread, I have made the following changes: 1. I have changed the direction in the computer preferences for Skip image file verification to "Yes". 2. I have downloaded the recommended files that are noted in this thread to the appropriate directory. (Additional comments on this factor - a) I have the BOINC program files on my external hard drive rather than on C: drive. Therefore the location for copying the downloaded files for myself was not on C: drive, but on my I: drive. b) Because SETI is not the only project that I have running on my computer system, the location for the setiathome.berkeley.edu folder is located in the sub-folder /projects/ under BOINC in the file pathway as noted in the thread postings. [I am using Windows Xp Pro.]) Because I am still having "Download failed" problems, I am wondering if I need to 1. Remove the files setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86, setigraphics_6.03_windows_intelx86, and libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll to a backup folder for safe keeping and see if the "Download failed" problem ends. OR 2. Just remove the entire BOINC files (uninstall) and then re-install everything all over again?? OR 3. Will there be a time when there will be an automatic download that I will be able to allow to take place and not even be worried about this entirely..... The following is cut/copied/ & pasted from the thread to show where this question originates: As for continuous download problems, there's a way around: No need to stop BOINC, just let it try and retry. In your browser URL path fill in http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/setiathome_7.00_windows_intelx86.exe and hit Enter. Save the file to the Setiathome directory in your BOINC Data directory e.g. c:\programdata\boinc\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\ (Windows Vista, 7 and 8) or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC\setiathome.berkeley.edu (Windows XP). Next download http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/setigraphics_7.00_windows_intelx86.exe and do the same as above. Last get http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/libfftw3f-3-3_upx.dll and save that to the directory. Next open BOINC Manager->Transfer tab->select the applications and the .dll file and click Retry Now. BOINC will instantly recognize that the files are in already and not try to download them any further. |

1. I have changed the direction in the computer preferences for Skip image file verification to "Yes". Did you ever used the local (in BOINC Manager) preferences? (if so they are in effect and not the web preferences with the same function) http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Local_preferences If you use them do the change (Skip image file verification) there: Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Change to the internal program altered also to skip image file verification. I will post a quick note to affirm any positive results in the event other users are profiting from this thread. |

My solution as denoted with the previous entries has proved to be effective. One point that was left out that I applied when the first step of "skip image file verification" for the web based preferences were changed. That step that was not noted anywhere in this thread is the requirement to update the project. (BOINC manager advanced page, click on "Projects", click on the line for setiathome, click on the "Update" button on the left panel). Upon completion of this step, everything seems to be working fine at present with a "Ready to run" result rather than "Download failed" report. Massive appreciated that the extra-terrestrial Greek language (geek talk) was kept to a super minimum so I could follow directions to accomplish this task! Now I can enjoy my strawberry malt with a sweet smile! |
