@Vipin - If someday i go to middle east i will leave some for you, it´s a promise, i just need to win the lottery before... Thanks for the offer Juan, however, I may just make another trip to Sao Paolo to meet my friends there and drop in to say Hi to you, provided I have saved enough, lol... My RAC continues to fall, not that it bothers me, although it pains to see that lots of folk out there are in this just for the sake of credit and forget the true purpose behind all this - Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence. ______________ |

I agree with you is RAC falling is bad but is secondary to the science, the main focus for me is the Vlars on GPUs (at least on some Nvidias models) my hosts can´t realy handled them and i can´t find a way to automaticaly abort them. |

... Well not quite Richard has my company, I do not believe it is a deliberate plot to cut RAC. Actually just typing that made me smile, lets try again "Eric and the team are involved in a deliberate plot to cut RAC". WHAT? |

... Conversely, what is your reasoning or evidence for concluding it was deliberate? My version of that saying is that if it looks like a cock-up, smells like a cock-up, then it probably was a cock-up. |

Well it's an abritrary number. [snip] ...The fuss people are making about those numbers is comepletely emotional. That would be true if V7 WUs had fewer floating point operations per task, so no... it's not the same. CreditNew may be a random number generator but it still has a Cobblestone heart. And a Cobblestone is just a randomly chosen yet constant amount of floating point operations. To use your example: 1000€ cost 3000 DM all of a sudden because the exchange rate that was supposed to remain constant, got skewed. I know you are good at math and know this stuff already, so I'm guessing its the schizophrenic nature of CreditNew that tripped you up:) |

Though on a more positive note, it does appear that at least my RAC's plunge is flattening out from a nose dive to more of a belly landing. So, there might be hope to be found in this mess after all. |

So, there might be hope to be found in this mess after all.Hope that happens soon, so I can read about something other than CreditFew. My BoincTask graph looks like the one HAL900 posted in this message, except my decline looks worse since I only plot 3 months worth. No sign of flattening yet. Still crunching, figure someone will address the issues someday. Another Fred Support SETI@home when you search the Web with GoodSearch or shop online with GoodShop. |

The RAC continues to fall at this rate because we try to find an ET base in the bottom of the sea... Daily production of +/-140k with 7 hosts running 24/7 with a combination of 11 GPU´s (all Fermis and Kepplers, 580 and up), not mention the CPU Work, somebody must be kidding me... CreditNew is more than a Random Number Generator is a black hole for credits. My only hope is because my beer stock is very big. |

Come on msattler please tell me this post was if nothing else tongue in cheek. SETI is at best pseudo "fringe" science whilst Einstein is peer reviewed rock solid science. Do you even know who Einstein was me wonders ??? . |

The underlying problem with so many of the issues with this project can be attributed to the fact that nobody actually in HQ keeps the community updated and its left to distant collaborating colleagues to say what they believe may be happening. And I'll counter that by saying the problem lies with some who, in the absence of factual information from HQ, assume that their hypothesis must be the only real answer. I love it when Lemmings all stick together whilst happily jumping off bottomless cliffs. That's a myth with no truth behind it, you know that? It's made up by Walt Disney. Now then, running away when your RAC goes down, what does that solve? It's not as if RAC is life's first true requirement, you don't get foreclosure when your RAC goes below a certain value. It's an average. Averages go up, averages go down. If they didn't, they'd be constants. Ever heard of a constant average? Anyway, think you're the first one to stop due to credit or RAC? I just searched a bit and found this beauty. When you skim through it, notice all of the zero RAC people in it. Also notice the date. As for project people communicating with the users, we all know that that happens when they've got time. I'm sure they're doing a lot of other things besides Seti. But if that's also one of the factoids why you say goodbye, then do so, say goodbye and be done with it. |

Ooops......I forgot, Einstein grants much more credit than Seti, therefore their work is much more valid.... Mark, that is not necessarily true. My venerable P4 w a PCI GT430 could not break 2K w Einstein, but when I switched it to AP only it was easily holding 2500. Now it lives in a new world w V7 and opt apps and it'l go under 1K the way things are. |

Ooops......I forgot, Einstein grants much more credit than Seti, therefore their work is much more valid.... OK, so maybe I wuz being a little tongue in cheeky there when making the joust. My point was.... If credits are more important to you than this particular bit of science, feel free to head on over to some of the higher paying projects to massage your iron poor, tired RACs. I'm staying here. Credits will either go back to previous levels or we shall have a new norm. Either way, I am fine with it. Wherever my RAC settles out, it shall always reflect the amount of work I do here and my commitment to this project. Meow. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

The fall in credit was most definitely not deliberate. I wouldn't even know how to cause such a thing using the BOINC credit new. I had assumed it was a case of "fast machines report results first" which usually drives the granted credit to low values when a new version is released, but there should have been ample time for that to fix itself. Of course the corollary is that I haven't figured out how to fix it yet. My RAC has gone down by less than 10%. Is this worse for people using anonymous platform? @SETIEric@qoto.org (Mastodon) |
