Look at the postive side. It can't fall below 0.

With CreditNew I wouldn't like to bet on that.

I do seem to recall an instance once or twice when somebody had seen negative credits awarded....long time ago.

Ageless, was one of them.

I was? I can only remember my post count going down, and that was more of a distraught to me than my RAC going down. I see my pendings are shooting up as well, probably a case of 1+1. :-)

Edit: I see in emails that Richard H. reported such a case in August 2011.

Did I really? I'd forgotten that.

While nothing compared to the RAC gurus here, I had peaked at 130k and have now come down below the 100k mark. Not that I am bothered about the RAC falling, I would crunch regardless, I am a hardcore seti cruncher.

Edit: I am not much fond of beer, but would love some Guarana, which unfortunately is not available in this part of the world.

Tasks 10% bigger are taking 40% longer to do both with stock v7 and Lunatics v7 on Cuda 5. Is there a hint why?

Not sure what you mean by 10% bigger, but they take long to process because they are doing more work than the v6 appplications did.

The rsc_fpops_est value is larger for v7 Wu's, 14% larger at mid range, and 48% larger at VHAR, notice how VHARs now have a three week deadline instead of two weeks.

Well my RAC just hit 30,000 for the first time since 2009, thats it I'm out of here. Been crunching since 1999 but this is the final straw - I didn't spend £800 on my Titan card only to watch my RAC drop like a stone. Lesson to Seti don't fix something thats not broke in the first place.

I will be in Einstein if anybody cares to join me from this sinking ship.

The ship is fine, man.

Only the representative RAC figures are going down.

I shall remain here, doing much more valid science than you are over at Einstein.

Ooops......I forgot, Einstein grants much more credit than Seti, therefore their work is much more valid....

Sorry.

Well, if all people care about is the completely arbitrary number called 'credit', than I think small loss to the project - we are crunching as fast as we can split anyway.

Not since v7, I think.

No matter. I have made it clear what I think about the credit situation.

I wish RAC were the same, but it is not.

I am not going to shut off any crunchers in it's epitaph.

Oh and don't get me wrong, CreditNew does need looking at etc. pp. It's just that the great minds on this project cllectively shudder when they see that part of the code.
I mean, with an asbestos suit and a gasmask perhaps. And then after you've put it all on solid mathimatical feet and chased all of davis's bugs out of it you'll still nedd a pretty good rolling pin to actually get him to use it.

Bavaria has alcohol free beer that's very good. With summer finally having arrived, these cold ones drink particularly good. That said, yep, go have my beer.

And in a separate sentence: Anyone else walking away over their dropping RAC?

Well it's an abritrary number. In a few weeks it should have stabilised to _something_.
I mean it's not like some people were getting 200 and others only 50 - the drop is for all. It's just finding a new arbritary equilibrium point.
The variance on credit allocated is plain ridiculous - but it's been like that ever since we got CreditNew.

The fuss people are making about those numbers is comepletely emotional.

It's like when we got the Euro and you suddenly had 1000€ instead of 2000 DM.

I could add something about starting to measure length in a different unit, that makes the number smaller, but I'll save my breath.

I guess that is why no other gpu enabled project (that I know of)uses credit new

May I make one comment from my asbestos suit and gasmask, please?

I am absolutely certain that Eric and the SETI@home project had no deliberate intention to reduce the absolute rate of credit as a part of this v7 rollout.

My posting style is not to make categoric statements without links to observable evidence, like message board posts or published source documents. There are none in this case - but I have worked with Eric and read his posts over many years. I was close enough to this particular rollout to get my name in the 'thanks' posting in the front page news: and I got not the slightest hint that Eric has any view that the previous rate of credit was too high.

This rollout has been a big strain on a lot of us, and I'm sure that extends to Eric, too. Once we're all sure that the new applications are working properly (and there's a bit of work to do in that direction yet), I look forward to working with Eric, David, William and anybody else interested in the reality behind credit to get this glitch sorted out, once and for all.

@Vipin - If someday i go to middle east i will leave some for you, it´s a promise, i just need to win the lottery before...

Back to topic, about the falling RAC, see the numbers falling realy dissaponit me but i continue to crunch 24/7 the same way, at least until my beer stock ends.

The only thing that realy annoying me is the sending of Vlars to be crunched by GPU´s because Vlars produces serious video lags (specialy in the multi GPU´s hosts) and make the hosts users unsatisfied to the point of they ask me the autorization to stop crunch Boinc on their hosts.
