Too late in the evening here to get my head round this, so I haven't read it yet. So posted without comment;

Nice read, thanks! The article reminds me of Brian Green.

You never know as the other the other guy said Einstein worked in a patent office and not a uni when he came out with his theory .

I like Brain Green too Lynn and Brian Cox they explain things in a simple language us simpletons can understand

+1, also the link to the prime numbers, IMO, was even deeper.

11 dimensions, 26 dimensions, 14 dimensions ?? all apparently needed to maintain symmetry in someone's vision of the universe. I think that all of these could eventually produce something that could be tested.

With a very accurate clock we might be able to figure out how large one of the other dimensions are. have they all curled up or is it just that we can't see them because we are three dimensional creatures or perhaps they don't exist.

Any theory must be checked by experiments. Th LHC so far has not found any of the Supersymmetry particles foreseen by the strings theory. The same can be said of Weinstein's theory, however beautiful it may be from a mathematical point of view.

I watch and rewatch all of the scientific programs that Brian Cox presents. Somehow his enthusiasm rubs off and I get excited all over again. The same with Morgan Freeman's programs.

Bob, Morgan will be back with wormhole June 5, 2013. Morgan, fell asleep during and interview today, imagine that. I'm not kidding.

Eric Weinstein may have found the answer to physics' biggest problems

by Marcus du Sautoy

There have already been feelings within the physics community that the Higgs boson we are seeing in the LHC might not be quite what we think it is. Weinstein's perspective might help us articulate what it is we are actually seeing. I myself can't see particles accelerated in the manor the LHC does.
One can·not duplicate the exact moment in time, when all particles came into existence.

snip:
Weinstein begins the paper in which he explains his proposal with a quote from Einstein: "What really interests me is whether God had any choice in the creation of the world." Weinstein's theory answers this in spades. Very little in the universe is arbitrary. The mathematics explains why it should work the way it does. If this isn't a description of how our universe works then frankly I'd prefer to move to the universe where it does!

I suspect that Reality may be fractal and of infinite dimensions and complexity.
Local Symmetry in any n-dimensional theory will always have chinks that lead to
the formulation of an even higher order of n+-dimensional theory.

i.e. If I can't prove my theories are correct here, that I'll move somewhere else where my theories are correct! i.e. I ain't changing my theories, take it or leave it !!!

Pop Quiz answer.

Since E Weinstein is a "Principal" at the Natron Group hedge fund I'd guess that his symmetry group is MEP, "Money Equals Power".

I would be interested in knowing prof. Roger Penrose's, an Oxford emeritus professor, opinion about this Weinstein theory.

Exciting news: all the problems plaguing physics have been solved. Dark matter, dark energy, quantum gravityMovie Camera – one amazing insight has delivered us from decades of struggle to a new knowledge nirvana.

OMG, has Johnney cracked it?

There's a catch, however: I'm unable to tell you what that insight is. Neither I, nor any of my professional physicist friends, have the faintest clue. In fact, nobody except Eric Weinstein and mathematician Marcus du Sautoy are sufficiently familiar with the claims to venture an opinion. Until yesterday Weinstein was largely unknown to us. He has a PhD in mathematical physics from Harvard University, but left academia years ago and now makes his living as an economist and consultant at a New York hedge fund.

Phew!

I didn't mean to intentionally leave anyone out, let's throw in Paul Gasek too. One of those voices that never seems to bore you.
