I just installed Boinc & Seti after several years of not running it and for the last couple of weeks it has been running fine with a tweek here and there until yesterday. I brought Boinc up and saw that the Seti@home tasks showed that the cpu was busy and the tasks were suspended. I tried an update, shut down & restart boinc and a computer reboot with no joy. I also have Folding@home running which is still having no problems, yes I shut that down and still nothing with the seti. I shut down both to play a game online and last night before I went to bed restarted it all with the same results. This morning I again tried to update and then the reset. This is my system, Windows 7 Home 64bit Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard AMD F-4100 Quad-Core 3.6Ghz overclocked to 3.8 (just trying it out) 16G RAM AMF Radeon HD 6770 1G GPU I just replaced the motheboard and cpu just before I started the boinc a couple of weeks ago. There have been no new programs installed in the last few days. One last thing, when all the above didn't work I aborted the tasks and hit update. New tasks downloaded showed that they were running and then but he progress % doesn't change. Still not after 50 min. In the task manager I have these to 2 processes running setiathome_3.03_windows_intelx86.exe*32 both are using about 100,000k memory |

Whenever tasks are suspended, you either have done something to suspend them, or some action was taken by BOINC that suspended them. You can: 1. Suspend the project with the Suspend button in the Projects tab. The Suspend button will then change to Resume. This will affect all tasks in cache. Aborting those tasks will not yield new downloads, since you suspended the project. 2. Suspend individual tasks with the Suspend button in the Tasks tab. The suspend button will change to Resume. This will affect only those tasks that you suspended. Aborting these tasks will cause new downloads. 3. You suspended BOINC through the Activity menu. This will affect all tasks of all projects. Aborting tasks will not yield new downloads, since you suspended BOINC. 4. You set BOINC to run based on preferences, and you set that BOINC can only run at certain times (Do work only between the hours of x and y and the override options within the manager). It will suspend all work due to time-of-day. Any work aborted during this time will only be renewed when time-of-day is over. 5. You set BOINC to run based on preferences, and you set that BOINC can only run after the computer has been idle for X amount of time (Suspend work while computer is in use?). Outside this time, all tasks are suspended. Aborting work will not yield new downloads, since BOINC is suspended. 6. You set BOINC to run based on preferences, and you set that BOINC can only run for a certain amount of time, before it suspends (Suspend work if no mouse/keyboard activity in last x minutes). Inside this time, all tasks are suspended. Aborting work will not yield new downloads, since BOINC is suspended. 7. You set BOINC to run based on preferences, and you set that BOINC needs to suspend when another non-BOINC program takes up a certain amount of CPU (Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above X%). At this time, all tasks are suspended. Aborting work will not yield new downloads, since BOINC is suspended. As you can see, quite a lot of possibilities why you saw work being suspended. None of them were reason to abort the work, had you but asked, or just taken a look-see through the manager. As for your present problems, first off the present Seti-Enhanced application on the CPU is v6.03, not v3.03. Second, they may have hung up. Whenever you do overclocking of the CPU and things don't work after that as they used to do, the first thing you do is clock back to normal and see if the problems go away. Third you check for is heat. Especially on a new motherboard, just to see if you applied the thermal grease correctly. |

As I said the reason given by BOINC is "CPU is busy" I had not changed anything in any option or preferences it was going fine one day and not the next. All the things I tried were things that have worked in the past including abort a task that would not run. I would like advice that pertains to what I wrote not a shopping list of bs that showed you did not read all I wrote. I try drastic measures when the normal one's don't work. As far as the what I found in my processes yes I mistyped the version. Yes I know about cutting the overclock back, duh. But it had been running just fine and in fact the clock had been set back because of a problem with Civ 5 I in fact put it back up when this happens to see if that would help. I have a heat monitor on my and the heat has not gone up. I know all the easy answers. |

I would like advice that pertains to what I wrote not a shopping list of bs that showed you did not read all I wrote. Obviously, you didn't read the answer completely either. In point seven: 7. "Suspend work when non-BOINC CPU usage is above X%" is the preference that controls the "CPU is busy" message. So, just set that value to a higher percentage (or zero) in your preferences and your tasks will no longer be suspended with that message. No restarting or aborting necessary. Gruß, Gundolf |

I'll never answer you again. Welcome to my ignore list. I'd appreciate it that you put me on ignore as well, so you will never have to read any of my posts again and possibly learn something about the program you run. All I tried to do was teach you a thing or two about the possible places where you can suspend BOINC and that none are a reason to abort work. But if that's in your opinion a list of bullshit, then so be it. Have fun. |

Did I not say that I had not changed anything but the program has stopped working? This is typical of the answers I got before on this forum. If there is no reason to abort a file why is the option there? What I got was again someone with canned answers that give no respect to the person asking for help. I am an electronics tech that has been using and building computers in some way for close to 40 yrs yet I get the don't push that button idiot answer. I thought I laid out what happened fairly well which had already answered most of the "list" I got back. So don't worry I won't be back. Oh and by the why Mr ignore maybe you would have learned something helping me since your list didn't do a thing. |

Why do you reply to your own message? Did you read my previous message (Message 1371228)? Gruß, Gundolf |

OK guys, take a deep breath... Now back to the initial problem.... Brad woke up and found all the S@H tasks suspended. Let's assume he didn't suspend them the night before, what can cause this? First is that CPU is being used by other programs more than the limit set. Not forgetting that there is a time delay - not in use for XX minutes. If this time is set too long, and say your AV software is briefly active it is possible for S@H to be in permanent suspension. (Windows task manager is useful here as you can see what windows tasks are running, and much processor they are using. Next is the execution times - if you want 24/7 crunching make sure both times are the same (I use 00:00, 00:00 and this works well). Third (and this gives a different message) is that you have another BOINC project running that has sent you tasks that have very short deadlines. For this you can either sit back and let the other project burn itself out, or you can suspend that other project and let S@H run.
