It looks as though we are coming towards the end of an era as there are now only 2 machines with GTX295s in the top 100 machines for Seti (one of those is mine and it's still just quietly plugging on).

I can still remember the days when these cards were stacked through the top 100.

Not progress. Good Marketing. GTX295 versus GTX690.

I bet that there arn't that many of those old cards that are able to run any more.

Cheers.

The 690 is probably running 2 or 3 wu per gpu... judging by that computers RAC I would say it is.

And then there's this rig of mine doing not much less than Lionel's ATM but I bet that it's using a lot less power and producing a lot less heat (sorry Lionel but I bet a similar rig with a pair of GTX 660Ti's would be better than 2x GTX 295's).

[Edit]The GTX 660Ti's will each be doing 3 w/u's at a time of course. ;-)[/Edit]

Cheers.

The 690 runs easely 2 WU at a time per GPU (so it actualy run 4 WU per card). It could run 3 but makes little diference in performance so in it´s case 2 is better than 3... unless you have a very slow CPU to feed the GPU, something that makes little sense if you have this top of line GPU.

Yes you are probably right about the power side of things and the capability of the 660s vs the 295s. I thought it might be interesting to see how many 295s were left which is why I went and had a look. I will eventually phase the 295s out though. The issue for me will be do I cycle cards down, or just replace those with new or second hand.

cheers from Melb.

Almost all of my 295s have succumbed to old age and hard work. I have 1-1/2 left running in a rig with two of them, of which one has lost a GPU core.

My best rig used to sport a pair of them, but, they have passed on.

Meow for the 295s!!

for the GPU's that are no longer with us.

It is good to see the progress of newer hardware. The servers are not as happy I am sure, but we can blow up that bridge when we come to it.
