No more high school games.
No more multiple accounts for you. (Each receiving multiple bans?)
No more bad bromance.
Drop your obsession.
The discussion isn't worth it.
My final thought for you, as you turn this into a blahg: "My independent social welfare group, known as "Math Graduates Students Living in Communes Eating Ramen Noodles that Really Really Love the Constitution" was targeted for audit by the IRS when we applied for tax exempt status back in August, 2005. Where were you then, conservatives? Where the HELL were you then?"
Now see what self-imposed really means. That includes not making another account or two while pretending you are gone.

Miss me yet? Ha ha! 59 days!

Yesterday, I posted elsewhere on the outrage people are expressing over the photo of terrorist Jahar Tsarnaev on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

Today, let’s consider the outrage of a few months ago over the handling of his older brother, Tamerlan. Many people, including several I am connected to on Facebook, expressed anger that he was going to be, and indeed was, buried on U.S. soil.

1) Show me precedence. What traitor or terrorist that has died on U.S. soil has been buried outside the U.S.? The first thing I looked for was Timothy McVeigh, Oklahoma bombing, 1995. He was executed on June 11, 2001 and cremated. Where were his ashes spread? I have not found an answer to that yet, but I’ll bet it was within the borders of the U.S.
2) How much did it cost, incidental or direct, to have Osama bin Laden buried at sea, May 2, 2011? Certainly, there were costs in transporting his body from Pakistan to the USS Carl Vinson. There were costs in having the ship move to wherever his body was taken to dump into the sea. At the least, we are talking about the cost of time (what else could these people been doing) and fuel. Where did the money for the fuel and the paychecks of the people involved come from? Is there any other way the government and the military get money besides taxing us?
3) Similarly, then, if Tamerlan Tsarnaev were to have been buried outside the U.S., what would have been the cost? I.E., how would your tax dollars been spent on his burial?
(A) Would we have paid the price for the transportation of Tamerlan’s body?
(B) What country or organization would have offered to take his body off our hands?
(C) If any exist, would they have taken on the costs?
(D) Would that country or organization be one that the U.S. “recognizes” and with which we have good relations?
(E) If not, would we have even accepted the offer?
(F) If we did:
(i) Would they have actually followed through and taken Tamerlan’s body off our soil?
(ii) If they did, would there be people demanding proof that he’d actually been buried outside U.S. borders?
(iii) If such demands were made, would such proof be offered? If yes, would that proof be accepted, or would someone cook up some conspiracy theory claiming Tamerlan had actually been buried on U.S. soil and would such claims go viral on social media?
(iv) If the deal were struck with a nation or organization we don’t have good relations with, would they, in fact, loved to stick it to us by, in fact, not taking him anywhere else and actually buried him on U.S. soil? Or, at least claim that’s what they had done, even if they hadn’t. Leak the news some amount of time later, and watch with glee as once again U.S. citizens lather with anger and tear into each other, over and over, in person and on social media?

Now, go back to missing me.

Sarge, but you went over to Facebook -- FB is heroin compared to the methadone of this venue. <smile>

57 days!
And I left this place to be over-run by 2 to 4 folks that have turned it into their personal blogs.
Meantime, CO is now known as East California. Funny, it started raining that evening, and now it looks as if the 1st Covenant has been revoked.

You get one response.
You are not aware of history.
I was offered, or came close to being offered, a modship here in October 2007. I had said for 1-1.5 years beforehand that, if ever offered one, I would refuse. On October 7, I e-mailed back "respectfully declining", asking I not be offered the position or, if still at the discussion stage, that the discussion not be continued.
I stopped myself. That's WISDOM.
Plus, I'm sure if the discussion had continued, there would have been at least 3-4 strident voices arguing against it, whether with good reason or not.

Debate is good. It can sharpen the mind. If one adopts a zen-like attitude, the sharper mind can also lead to good choices.

What occurs here is not debate. What it is, I am not going to rack my brain trying to put a name to it and explain it. It would be one more useless effort, most likely. WISDOM suggests leaving you to your own devices.

It is my hope that the few that still speak here will eventually realize there are other places and ways we can debate with each other, learn from each other, and yet remain civil.

It is my hope that, as the field thins even more, those that read will recognize what is being said here, and how it is being said, and put it in its proper place as they seek to understand the world, including the drama that is politics.

And I imagine at least one will continue to post because, "The sound of your own voice must soothe you", yet, "They say the empty can rattles the most".
