I'd been back running Seti@Home for a few months wheh I got a message informing me of an upgrade that should be run( Don't remember if it was the SETI software or Bionic).
Once I ran the upgrade, my machine stopped processing SETI data and when I would normally expect it to begin the Seti processing screen saver, I now get a screen that says "Bionic Is Not Running".
Everything else on my machine works fine. It's just SETI that has stopped working.
What do I need to do to get Seti automatically running again?

a) The software is called BOINC.
b) The message you get is informative, not an error.
c) Please post your start-up messages. You can get those from the Event Log, press CTRL+SHIFT+E simultaneously, post the first 20 to 30 lines.
d) Please post the contents of the global_prefs.xml file and if it exists the global_prefs_override.xml file. You can find these files in the BOINC Data directory, by default under Windows 8 at C:\Programdata\BOINC\
It will be a hidden directory, so either enter the path directly into Windows Explorer and hit Enter, or tell Windows to show hidden files and folders.
The XML files can be opened with Notepad, no need to use an XML editor (although it's possible if you have one installed).

I got the notice that an upgraded version of Boinc is available.
When I tried to install it, I got a message boinc.msi not found.
This is not new to me. EVERY time there is an upgrade I get this message, first when I had a pc with windows XP, then when I was running windows vista.
Now I have a core i7 with windows 7 and can't run the update. If I hadn't done a system restore I wouldn't be able to run it because the software wouldn't allow me to revert to the previous version.
From what I have seen, the upgrades are not effective anyway.

"It's really a Windows problem, not so much a BOINC problem. No need to complain that BOINC needs to fix this, as BOINC cannot fix problems that are made by Windows!"

Not sure what happened, but it has magically started working again. I didn't do a thing. Oh well, I'll chalk it up to the vagaries of technology.

Soo, it's a windows problem since Win 95? Which is the OS I've started with and every version since has had the same issue.
Maybe the authors of Boinc might think about consulting with the Microsoft folks.
Too bad SETI@home isn't a stand alone program anymore, they just had to get on the Boinc bandwagon.

Maybe the authors of Boinc might think about consulting with the Microsoft folks.

And what makes you think that the developers haven't done that yet? The present installer used is the Microsoft Installer (.MSI). Whenever you get into this problem of the uninstaller not finding where it left the source program, it is due to Windows having misplaced the directory. The directory is still there, the files are still in it, it's just that Windows, or more precisely the Microsoft Installer Uninstaller, is unable to find where the last BOINC.MSI was put.

What we're waiting for, and been waiting for for 4 years now, is that the new open source installer is going to be used. But that one has its own idiosyncrasies, bugs and problems.

Too bad SETI@home isn't a stand alone program anymore, they just had to get on the Boinc bandwagon.

Without BOINC, Seti@Home would've died a long time ago.
