Some time ago on our account page we were able to view how many result we had returned that was awaiting credit with a total displayed at the bottom of the list. I am aware this feature has been removed. However I can't remember why it was removed, was removed due to high database load? I would like to get people's feedback on the idea of bringing back the pending credit feature. Over at Einstein@Home they have a feature that shows the number of tasks that are pending plus the amount of credit that is owing with out having to click on anything. This system is called display only claimed credit sum and number of tasks, this feature is specific to Einstein@Home has this system been thought of, would be possible to implement it here? I like been able to see the amount of credit that is owing to me as it makes it easier to see how much work you have processed in a day or over a period of time. If this system cannot be implemented it is a shame but I do understand that we cannot have everything we want in life. If my idea has already been discussed in the Forms I have missed this discussion please point me in the right direction. Thank you for taking the time to read this and providing feedback on my idea. |

Apparently the query was a very intensive one to run and at a time when the servers were under some stress it was decided to make life a bit easier for them by dropping it. Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

You can still get some info by going to your home account page and clicking on your account and then, tasks. It does give you the rundown....... State: All (26201) · In progress (1730) · Validation pending (14213) · Validation inconclusive (389) · Valid (9861) · Invalid (1) · Error (7) Application: All (26201) · Astropulse v505 (0) · AstroPulse v6 (171) · SETI@home Enhanced (26030) · SETI@home v7 (0) "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." It was because you can't be sure which wingman will decide the result, and from which wingman will decide the credit, we're not on a fixed amount of credit for a result now, it depends on the APR, and the runtime, and whose task is used. If a wingman's task runs a bit longer than normal, then is used to decide the credit, both of you will get a bit more than his normal amount of credit (for that app_version), if your task is used, and you're a bit quicker than your normal, you'll get a bit less credit than your normal amount of credit (for that app_version). And ya know....... I do refer to the number of tasks pending at times, but I have not been concerned with the amount of credit granted for quite some time now. It is what it is. As I have said before, whatever the random number generator tosses out at me is just fine. Because I am treated no better or worse than any other participant on the project. Greetings, I only have one question: If the feature is no longer there, why then is the link to it still on our account page? I have seen on other projects that the link is not displayed. Keep on BOINCing...! :) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Greetings, I am not running any other Boinc projects other than Seti at the moment, so I cannot check. I suspect it has to do with the way Boinc is maintained and updated. What may not be a valid link here on Seti may well be valid for another project. It is well known here that the link does not parse any information due to the fact the pending credits are not calculated up front anymore. So, it's just a harmless little button. Wasnt the rule of thumb back when they displayed pending credit something like 1/4 to 1/2 of RAC? Its been so long,I cant remember. [/quote] Old James |

Wasnt the rule of thumb back when they displayed pending credit something like 1/4 to 1/2 of RAC? LOL...I don't remember either. I do remember that when the total got too high, the servers would cough up a furball trying to collect the information.... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Wasnt the rule of thumb back when they displayed pending credit something like 1/4 to 1/2 of RAC? Don't remember anymore.... It was either the total credits pending or the number of WUs. My memory is not what it once was...LOL. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Thank you for all the feedback on my idea. Is it worth me sending a private message to Eric to suggest this idea? Since the relocation of the servers plus then new servers that we have maybe such a query will no longer be such an issue? |

Thank you for all the feedback on my idea. Is it worth me sending a private message to Eric to suggest this idea? There is nothing to query. There is no pending credit anymore. Credits are awarded at the time of validation and depend on the two results being compared. It's not like it used to be when a requested credit number was generated when completed work was reported. I can't see this happening as how do you try and judge what the pending credit will be with the current random number generator? Cheers. |

I can't see this happening as how do you try and judge what the pending credit will be with the current random number generator? It isn't going to happen here on Seti. The feature is still valid for other projects where a fixed or precalculated method of granting credit is used. Seti does not do that anymore, so the pending credit feature is not of any use here. The best you can do is monitor the number of WUs pending, per my previous post. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Thanks for all the replies to my question. It is a shame in my opinion that we cannot have have this feature but as I said in an earlier post we cannot have everything we want in life |

Greetings, Greetings Mark, I was wondering from a logical point of view. ;) Example: I am a member of a Star Trek fan club. I have a website that I built and maintain to reflect this membership. On this website I have a Christmas poem for which I display a link at Christmas time. It's a Star Trek-ified 'The Night Before Christmas' poem. Anyway, I comment the link so that it is not displayed all year, only at Christmas time. So my question is, if the link is useless, why display it in the first place? Keep on BOINCing...! :) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. So my question is, if the link is useless, why display it in the first place? Because to remove it requires staff time and effort. To leave it alone requires - nothing. |

So my question is, if the link is useless, why display it in the first place? Greetings Richard, Time and effort? Come on. It takes me less than a minute to make a change like that. I'm sure someone there has an extra few minutes to do it. But, it's a moot point. Everyone (at least the regulars) knows it is not active, well it's active, it just does not return anything substantial. I'm just sayin'... ;) Keep on BOINCing...! :) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L.
