For a prelude, let me ask you to listen to a wonderful John Prine song.......Hello, in there, Hello.

I have alluded to my state of mind from time to time over the past few years.

It has not gotten better, my friends.

Every day I wake up feeling more tired than the day before.
I manage to get up and go to work, but it is surely a struggle these days.

I never ever wake up feeling refreshed. No matter how many hours of sleep I get. All the same. Ambushed. Every day, day after day. It gets very tiring.

I have been about this project and not much more for years now. It is my daily exercise, my reason for waking up and going to the computers to see which has done what, and if any have locked up.

What I am trying to tell you in a backdoor manner of speaking is........
\

I am not sure how long I can really keep this up. I have spent thousands of dollars a year to run Seti.
I have been granted a wonderful gift of GPUs from a friend, and have employed them.
If anybody has taken notice, I now have the best RAC on the project except for a guy that has hundreds of computers on a school network.

I might have to retire with that medal pinned on my chest.

We'll see.

I know I cannot do this indefenately.

Time is drawing near.

Leavin' on a jet plane.

I hope I do not have to leave on a jet plane.

You all will understand if I do.
These things have a bad thing of happening suddenly, and I don't wish to go from you.

I didn't mean to be scary, but reality bites some times.

I shall always be be Your Captain.

Song that I have always loved.

Look it up.

You may wonder sometimes, why I post such things as this.
It is my wish that I should be still at such an age that I was.

I am no longer sixteen going on seventeen.......

But, I may posture to you.
That was the wonder that Julie and the songs gave to some of us.
We COULD be kids at whatever age the calender gave us.
Please forgive me if I get overexuberent about it at times.

And besides, I need to smile sometimes these days, forgive me.

NOW....

Let's just carry on with kitty business as usual until I cannot.
My docs are on the case, although they seem clueless enough at present.
Lori has survived worse so far. I anticipate I shall do so too.

One thing modern medical science has only a few side notes about is the wonder of kitty love and it's miracles.

I have an abundance of it here.

And it has very curative qualities.

You do know, do you not, that besides his amazing wit, Hugh Laurie is quite an accomplished musician...

I;ve just signed a contract. 15.5 eurocents/kWh (Plus VAT) until 220 kWh/month and 31 eurocents/kWh beyond that. But I am mostly under the 220 limit with two Linux boxes running 24/7. No AC.

No AC here either. Could not further afford it, and it would be of little use anyway.
I could slice my bill easily in half if I would restrain the kitties to just run the crunchers on my off peak hours.
As it is, the water bed heater and the hot water heater only run off peak. That saves a chunk. But when I let the whole farm run all day on peak rate, they nail me.

Your the expert, compared to most crunchers, but would it be cost effective to replace your ( I can hardly say it ! ) erm older power hungry cards with newer more electrically efficient ones.
Basically getting rid of the 580s and 295s and replacing them with 6XX series or when they are finally abundant ,7XX series cards.
I know it would cost a bit , but would probably pay for itself with reduced electricity bills.

Just a thought, I would crap myself if I got bills like yours !!!! :)

A good thought, and not incorrect.
But the kitties don't have the upgrade costs up front.
I have at last count at least 9 580s cooking away. And they do toss out a bit of heat, they do. Even if I could upgrade them for a random number...let's say $250.00 each, which is probably not realistic, the new cards would be obsolete long before they paid for themselves.

The cards I am running now, every single one of them, were gifted to me by fellow Seti enthusiasts.
Paying for the juice to run them is all I can handle. And I am very thankful for that.

Of course, if someone were to mysteriously ship me a dozen 600 series cards, the kitties would oversee me plugging them all in....LOL.
