ASUS has a program that can be downloaded called " PC Diagnostics " .

This program has a stress test section that ( supposedly ) stress tests the CPU , Ram , and GPU card.

If you have this program , how long would I need to run it on the ram to get a good stress test of the Ram done ?

I know that memtest is better , but I have a 64 Bit OS and memtest is for a 32 bit OS .

Hi Floyd I have not used it but knowing your problems I would run it for at least 12hrs and do it during the day so it will test it during the hottest part of the day

ok 12 hours is 720 min... I'll set it up to do that and use it some while it is running , that should increase the stress somewhat , or is that ok to do ?

The test is running now , doesn't seem to be slowing anything down , or , maybe I'm just using Video memory ( 1 gig Ram on GPU ) GTX 460 SE .

Memory Stress Test

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Memory Stress Test items:

Tests the stability of the memory modules.

Uses a variety of parameters and approaches to test the stability of the memory modules.

To access more memory for assessing the current physical memory load capacity, enable the Lock Pages in the memory settings, if the current account policy allows it. Refer to the operating system's Help file for more details on enabling the Lock Pages.

not sure what this means... lol

I know that memtest is better , but I have a 64 Bit OS and memtest is for a 32 bit OS .

Memtest86 runs independent of your installed OS.

You only need your OS to create a bootable device (floppy, cd, etc) for the memory test program.

After rebooting to run the test program your OS is out of the picture.

Is this the one you are talking about ?

memtest86+-4.00.iso OR memtest86+-4.20.iso

Just burn this to a CD and boot from it ?

I get memtest86 from here:

http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm

You want a Windows package if you are using Windows to create the bootable device of your choice.

In theory you should be able to burn the .iso version onto a CD and it will boot and run memtest86 correctly.

I have win 7 pro 64 Bit... Windows pkg won't run on the 64 bit OS...
I tried this one "mt400.exe" It wouldn't work.
OR... maybe I just don't know what I am doing.

EDIT:
Ok I got that one made an Image cd ( boot cd ) and will reboot from cd and run it.
How long should this run ?

It does have quite extensive instructions on that website for creating the memtest windows bootdisk.

Edit- NM I see you seem to have found it.

Windows Boot-disk Creation

Before you can use Mestest86 on a Windows system it must first be installed on a CD-ROM, USB flash drive or floppy disk. To create a CD-ROM a system with the capability of creating a CD-Image from an ISO file is required.

Create a boot-able CD-ROM:

Download the Windows MemTest86 ISO image.
Right click on the downloaded file and select the "Extract to Here” option. This places the CD-ROM ISO image into the current folder.
Use the CD burning software available on your system to create a CD-ROM using the extracted ISO image. Be sure that you create a CD image from the ISO file rather than placing a copy of the ISO file onto a data CD. Look for “Burn Image from File” or similar option under the File menu of your CD burning software.

Create a boot-able USB Flash drive:

Download the Windows MemTest86 USB image.
Right click on the downloaded file and select the "Extract to Here” option. This places the USB image and imaging tool into the current folder.
Run the included imageUSB tool, it should already have the image file selected and you just need to choose which connected USB drive to turn into a bootable drive. Note that this will erase all data on the drive.

Create a boot-able floppy:

Download the Windows MemTest86 floppy disk image.
Right click on the downloaded file and select the "Extract to Here” option. This places the floppy disk image into the current folder.
Creating a boot-able floppy disk requires use of a third party program to write the floppy disk image to a disk. A number of programs are available to write the disk image. Rawwrite is a recommended free program available at: http://www.chrysocome.net/rawwrite. A more robust solution is WinImage, available at http://www.winimage.com/download.htm.
