I was expecting instructions along the lines of: Copy file A to directory X, copy file B to directory Y, run file D, etc.

Like this?

Sort of. And it looks familiar, I think might have used it four or so years ago.

If you are a advanced user you must know what to do and how to install manualy a package (just a simple copy of the files to the project directory and aimerge the allready supplied cmd), if no you could wait until the automated install version will be avaiable or politely ask for help, that´s the best way to learn something from ours allways ready to help comunity.

lol
Do you have a readme on how to become an advanced user? It would be very helpful.

Copy A to point B. Swish and swirl.
Do whatever is was that point C was up to in the first place.
Do another cycle.
If computer D does not respond, reboot and try again.
Try some more software.
Repeat manuver X several times.
Re read the instructions, then say several ohshits.
Post in the forums about why this or that is not working right.
Say some more ohshits.

There......
Now you are an advanced user....LOL.
Ohshits are very helpful.

Jason, thank you for the package.

Ageless, thank you for installation instructions.

Everything seems to be working:

If I can get some more sleeps with the kitties, I have many rigs that need the same massaging.

ROTFL - excellent! And very true for some 'systems support' such as what I'm doing at the moment... (Old problem of 2008-era install scripts not knowing about 2013 new latest-hot systems... At least the vital bits should be still compatible!)

You didn't mention the flying fur, meow(!), treble back-flip somersault flying screwdriver and clunk, and the colourful wide open eyes from that! ;-)

All good fun... And all very advanced if only you know where the instructions are.

Aside:

I can also sympathise with Jason's comments about the 'anonymous platform' system. That's the part I never got round to automating for general case installs. The rest of the install with "wget" download and file copying is trivial.

For a general Linux systems automated install, the race is on between an automated V7 from Berkeley as part of Boinc vs whenever I next may need to update multiple machines. Sorry folks, Linux is just too reliable and long lived to need to update too often... Meanwhile, there's already pre-prepared install packages for various distros that have come out before my meager efforts!...

Stay cool!

Happy fast crunchin',
Martin
