Message 1364115 - Posted: 3 May 2013, 20:38:32 UTC - in response to Message 1364106.

I upgraded BOINC from 7.0.28 to 7.0.64. Would that have cleaned up the slot directory on this node?

I still think you're got a problem with your slot directories, some are probably O.K (Slots 0 to 3 at least),
you might want to Set NNT, complete any tasks, report them, then reset the project, now shut down Boinc, navigate to the slot directories any delete any slots directories greater than 0 (Boinc will make new directories as it sees fit)

If you still have problems, try a Boinc repair installation (Just rerun the Installer)

You'll just have to wait until you're got some more MB Wu's to see if running the AMD app fixes it, probably will, the slot directory might be a red herring.
(The last person with a slot directory problem was reporting the same signals on each completed Wu, and doing it very fast, probably some files were read only, your symtoms are different)

Well are the systems that are failing all AMD? or a mixture of Intel and AMD?

Has anyone tried to see if running as a daemon might affect some CPU only systems in recent versions of BOINC?

I was going to comment on Slot 5 earlier but as a joke Were any jobs
sucessful in other slots?

Having your computers hidden necesitates all these questions

yes I thought the Daemon/ GPU combo was a nono.

It maybe a coincidence but after our IT Security team made me hide them the attacks stopped. It is a small price to pay to keep them hidden and keep the IT guys off my back because he is convinced it worked.

Time for a new IT guy.

All of the systems that are failing are AMD systems.

AP tasks were successful in other slots. I did have the wrong file (Intel instead of AMD) in the app_info.xml. That has been repaired but some of the AMD machines are still logging the error.

All of the machines that have the error now have their quotas reduced to 1 task so I need to wait until tomorrow to get a new quota allocation.

Something to note is that the transition to "tomorrow" is based on a hash of the HostID, a feature which was added to spread the load of systems with problems across the calendar day. So each one of yours which is still throwing errors will get one new task at an unknown time. If you made note of the time, it would repeat the next day.

Now, and probably originally, the app version is not "usable" because it has reached the daily quota. Although I had read the app_info.xml you had posted, the fact you're not running any GPU apps hadn't sunk in, that's a rarity for high RAC users.

The AK_v8b2 applications were built in November 2011 as bug-fixed versions of the original AK_v8b applications from March 2011. The code base wasn't changed otherwise even though AMD released their first Bulldozer based CPUs in October 2011. The builds were made by the Intel compiler with only AK_v8b2_win_SSE3_AMD.exe having the configuration set to produce code which can run on recent AMD systems.

I can't think of a reason that some of the AMD tasks are still quitting with zero runtime.

Thanks for looking at this Joe.
The tasks were quitting with zero time because I had incorrectly copied an app_info.xml from an Intel node to all of the AMD nodes.
I have now fixed the app_info.xml to use the correct .exe for the AMD CPU architecture.

My current issue is that I can get tasks downloaded on some of the systems but not all of them. the ones that are failing get the error message in the subject line:
This node works http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6624031
But this one does not http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6623979

The node that is failing only gets the error message when there are some MB task(s) available:

Okay now I am even more confused. (Not a hard thing to do according to my wife ;^} )

This node downloaded MB tasks but is still getting the warning about no correct version.

I am getting the same message on my SUN WS which uses the Lunatics app for AP. But no MB tasks. I get them on my HP laptop, also with Linux, and on my Solaris Virtual Machine using a BOINC client and SETI@home by Dotsch, also with an app_info.xml.

Okay now I am even more confused. (Not a hard thing to do according to my wife ;^} )

This node downloaded MB tasks but is still getting the warning about no correct version.
...

When tomorrow comes for a host, the server clears the "Number of tasks today" and fulfills the work request to the extent possible (incrementing "Number of tasks today" for each task sent). So then the next request again gets rejected because it's over quota.

The "has finished a daily quota" is from the server standpoint, it means tasks have been sent rather than processed and returned. Poor wording which Dr. Anderson would probably change if a better idea were suggested.

If that host successfully completes, uploads, and reports some of those tasks the quota will grow quickly. When below the basic 100 set by the project configuration, each result reported as a "success" doubles the quota immediately. And a result which validates also boosts the quota by one.

Note that "usable" is not the same as "correct". An app version may become unusable temporarily for various reasons including the daily quota for that version. But if a host never gets any work even after over a day of trying, it might be worthwhile to take a look at the sched_request_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml file for the host to be sure it is actually sending the correct <app_version> sections.

Thanks Joe for pointing out the difference between "usable" and "correct".
I am sorry you have had to beat me about the head and shoulders so much to get me to understand; thank you for your patience.

I think I understand now when "one day" passes and I can get a new task downloaded and the task gets successfully reported the quota for that machine should slowly increase above 1. When the daily quota for that machine is greater than the number of tasks the scheduler could give me for that update, the message will go away.

Thanks again for your wisdom and patience.

Message 1364620 - Posted: 4 May 2013, 23:14:19 UTC - in response to Message 1364528.

All 32 of my servers with AMD processors are now at the 100 task limit with MB tasks.
Hopefully they will start splitting AP task again soon

Thanks again Joe for all of the explanations that this non-advanced user required.

I have this app_info.xml that allows me to run the optimised apps for ATI GPU and the the astropulse CPU app. I want to add the standard CPU setiathome_enhanced tasks to it but I have tried a couple of times to add the setiathome_enhanced CPU to the app_info and they all error out.

Is there a way to run the setiathome_enhanced ATI GPU and the setiathome_enhanced CPU on the same pc ??? This is one of the computers

Is that really supposed to be a small (not capital) i in the OpenCL ATi filename?

Yes, you can add stock MB CPU to the setup. Make sure you have the necessary files, which should be the case if you had the host under stock at some point.
Else you'll need to redownload from the project.

I'll be looking into the necessary entries to run 6.03 under anon when I've got time tomorrow.

Hi

Yes that is a small "i" in the AT1, I double checked the files that I downloaded.

I have the two files setiathome_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe and setigraphics_6.03_windows_intelx86.exe and I put them into my app_info but I guess I did it wrong because they all started to error out with the error

-1073741515 (0xffffffffc0000135) Unknown error number
