I think you make some wrong assumptions here. I'm pretty sure you will find that not all Dems are anti gun and not all Republicans have their own private arsenal.

If as the polls show 90% of Americans are in favour of some sort of gun control, then an awful lot of Republicans are in that mix. Even if you take 10% off that figure to allow for "poll bias", that still means the two thirds majority required to pass most referenda and under Robert's Rules of Order to pass a major motion is well and truly covered.

It all depends on what the definition of (to quote an Arkansan philosopher) "Gun Control" is. It is also sort of like what is meant by objections to "Gay Marriage" Are we talking about homophobia, legal rights, tax breaks, religious rites ?? No intelligent and rational discussion on this emotional issue as well.


I also doubt that the 90% figure is correct--What is the evidence for this poll and what question was asked ??

If you asked "would you like to see less violence in America" then there might just be a high 90's response. But if you asked would you favor random people being able to declare you mentally unstable, and to keep a detailed list of firearms and their locations among law-abiding citizens then the answers would be close to zero.

In fact there can never be any sort of gun control. The guns are already out there and those who wish to do mayhem will find guns easy to acquire. Our government can't even keep illegal immigrants out of our country so how then keeping guns out as well.
