I recall a thread on how to set your memory from 1T to 2T but I cant seem to search it. Anyone have that link.

My I7 3770 is set at 1T and reads dual channel according to CPU-Z, while my I7 920 reads 2T and triple channel.

Thank you.

It is a setting in the bios. Usually you get into the bios by hitting the delete key when first booting up.
There should be a section for memory settings. Might be called memory mode or timing mode.

Thanks Mark, I will look into bios and hopefully not blow up my computer:)

Thanks Mark, I will look into bios and hopefully not blow up my computer:)

There should be no problem if you change no other settings than the timing rate. Leave all else as is.
Remember to save the change when you exit the bios.

Are you sure the motherboard running double channel
supports triple channel with the installed processor?

? He didnt ask about that... but no... The 3770 will only support dual channel and the 920 will support triple channel

I didnt ask because I didnt have a clue about asking that:) I just figuered I would get the link read it and then change the settings. thats why I ddint give any specs.

Its an ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

My memory is Kingston Hyper X Blu 8 GB (2x4GB) 240 pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 destop memory model KHX1333C9DB1k2/8gb

CPU is Intel I7 3770 Ivy bridge 3.4 Ghz (3.9 ghz turbo) LGA 1155 77W quadcore.

But if the I7 3770 only will do dual I guess I dont have to worry about it.

So thanks for the heads up on that.

For some reason I had thought you wanted to have everything running in triple channel. Oh well.

If you have the manual handy I see something about a memory button on the board that might be worth investigating. Also you might look into manually setting the memory specs to match what Kingston says it's supposed to be. Maybe try bumping the memory voltage up a bit from the 1.65v it's supposed to be running at. Have you tried the failsafe settings? Also try installing with the fewest number of memory modules you can get away with. Add the rest of the memory after a successful install and 24 hours of burn in.

Here is how it was explained to me.

socket 1155/1156 dual channel
socket 1366 triple channel
socket 2011 quad channel.

So as my I7 3770 is an 1155 socket it is dual channel. And according to CPU-ID its at 1T. Im going to study my Asus manual and get a better grasp of things.
Now that Ive built one and soon to build another I need to learn how to tweak them.

You guys amaze me with how much you know about the workings of the parts and how they interact as a whole.

I have a question about this 1T and 2T business...
My mem is running a bit under specs according to cpuz , It is showing 642.1 MHZ .
FSB dram is 3:8
CT = 1T
It is corsair Dual channel 1333 MHz , PC3 10700
AI Suite II , has it overclocked , CPU from 2.8 GHZ to 3.37 GHZ
it was supposed to OC the ram as well ( I thought ) , But the specs for the ram is ( I think ) 667 MHZ for dual channel . 667 x 2 = 1334 MHz what the mem specs say.

Should the mem down clock like this ?

Memory speed are usually a ratio of the CPU speed or base clock speed, and as such, are tied to that clock. So, the RAM cannot be assigned a SPECIFIC speed. So, the next ratio up may be over the rated speed of the RAM, and the next lower one is selected.

Ok , Then If I can get some higher ram , such as :

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7025810&csid=_23

Might that maybe be the problem with the not booting , the ram down clocked ?
Although I think it was doing that before I ran the auto tune on the AI Suite II program .
Blast it , this mess is driving me koo-koo . LOL
But what U said must be what this was saying about the ram on the MEM suppliers list.
"-The default DIMM frequency depends on its Serial Presence Detect (SPD), which is the standard way of accessing information from a memory module. Under the default state, some memory modules for overclocking may operate at a lower frequency than the vendor-marked value."

I would still try manually selecting 2t in the bios and see if this improves booting and/or stability.

I usually set the memory into XMP mode and it will chose the best settings for it. The Kingston Hyper X support XMP. I have similar spec P8Z77's but with the 1600Mhz memory.

I will try that if my bios has it. ( not sure as I dont understand a lot of lingo in bios yet ) Thanks for the info.

I have read my motherboard manual so now I have some more questions.
My I7 3770 is stable no over heating of the CPU or GPU
My board has a GPU boost switch- to automaticaly optimize the system for fast yet stable clock speeds. Id like to know if I should enable it.

I havent installed AI Suite II yet. Is that a worthwhile program.

I know that the thread title is memory but I feel questions like these help novice builders like myself get the knowledge we need.
