It looks like Sheila and I may lose our eldest (11 year) old Furball soon.

She has an enlarged heart, as both Coriander and Sophie had. All these dogs developed heart murmurs, and grew enlarged hearts, from their 9 year. As we sourced all of them from the same breeder, at 1 year individuals we think it is an inherited defect that develops with time.

Rosie has been on VetMed for months to try and reduce the size of her heart, but the medicine may have delayed things as long as it can now.

Little Rosie is coughing more and has stopped eating (discomfort in the chest?), I don't know. But it reminds us of the way Corriander and Sophie went (congestive heart failure).

I hope I am wrong, and we are trying to see the vet tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that.
My Squirrel kitty is about to have her 18th birthday.........
Rather old for a barnyard kitty.

She is still somewhat perky, but I know that when kittens get that old, they can go down in days sometimes. She is sleeping here beside me now. Luv her so.

Our last cat Araminta, was 19 when she died. Her last week was like watching a wind up watch running down. She died naturally.

A sad time we need to come to term with at times.

We still will have the company of our 4 rescue furballs - mummy Lara and 3 of her last litter of 10 puppies. Not to forget our Parsons Russell, Poppy.

Meds for our loved companions can only do so much, as they can for us.
Squirrel has been on anti-thyroid meds for a couple of years now.
You know once you have to go down that road, the end is nearer than it could be if things were different.

I have had a couple of wonderful years of extended life with my eldest kitty.
She acts a little strange these days, and I sometimes wonder if she knows where she is....... But she always comes around for her kibbles. She is looking at me now. I am gonna miss that kitty sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.

I know you shall miss your loved one when she goes too.

There is nothing that can compare to the love of an innocent animal companion.
They, unlike some human companions, give without any restrictions as to why, how, or when.

They just do not know those restrictions on love.

Sorry John-both our girls have that issue. Our oldest (Izzy-9) is much more progressed then Abby (7). Izzy is on VetMedin plus Furosemide tabs and another I can't remember. She coughs but it doesn't affect her too much and she's still very active.

We put both our dogs on the supplement Taurine which contributes directly to cardiac health. Vet says it usually helps...it's cheap too

But I know that you both love them just as much as I love my kitties.

I know you do.

Prayers and passions for you both.

Sir John, I, too, hope you are wrong, and that Rosie is not yet at the end of her time. But when hew time does come, you can let her go knowing you did well by her all these years, and that when your time comes, she and all the others will be waiting for you at the foot of the Bridge.

Spoke to Chris, who saw my post some time ago.

We got to the Vet just gone 10.10am today, and the prognosis was not good.

Cutting a long story short, even though there was things the Vet could do it would just prolong her life for a repeat soon.

Sheila and I decided, with difficulty, to say good bye to Rosie, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge about 10.30am today. When my remission time is up and I go, I will meet her, her sisters (Corriander and Sophie) and many more of our puppies and kittens.

R.I.P Rosie ...

The wife and I rescued Shih-tsu mixed about 4 years ago. She was an abandoned dog and clearly had been on the streets for some time. Long story short and $500+ later we had her cured of heartworm. Like all Shih-tsus she is loving, attentive, and very attached to me. She gets panic attacks if I even try to leave her at the groomers.

I feel for you. If my Millie were to get sick or be near death I'd be devestated. You clearly love you pet as family as I do mine.

A final kindness - a gentle end to her suffering.

So we'll raise a glass to her memory,
and honor 11 years of loving companionship.

I think Sheila and I have one advantage on you.

We too did a Shih-Tzu rescue, and 18 months ago returned with an abused 5 year old mum, and breeding machine, and 3 of her 10 puppies (2 boys - William and Bobby, as well as a little unwanted girl Corrie.

We still have these little furballs to greet us, as well as our 10 year old Parson Russell (Poppy). At present Poppy has a green, red and blue chest agter chewing up some highlighter pens.

I agree Donald, and thanks.

But, oh my is it hard to let go at that final point ...

I'm so sorry, John.

At least you were with her - cats have this unfortunate tendency to hide away when they are about to go...
