Ok , I don't know what to do with this PC. I downloaded Sea tools for windows and also for the dos version. the windows one could not detect the Primary HD , But the dos one did , so I ran the Long test set , and it found NO bad sectors , It Passed 100 % of the test. Sometimes The PC won't boot , says read error , Ctrl-alt-del to restart . I am starting to think it might be this new MB is the Problem . This HD is a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 , 1.5 TB Model Number ST31500341AS , P/N 9JU138-302 This MB is the -- ASUS M5A97 R2.0 PSU is Rosewill Model # RP 550-2 With the MB I was not able to get the Install CD to work correctly , So I just tried to install the single driver files individually. The Files on the asus web site for this board are HUGE between 600 and 900 meg AMD Chipset Driver V8.973 (8.0.877.0) for Windows XP/Vista 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL) AMD Chipset Driver V9.01 (8.0.903.0) for Windows 7/8 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL) File Size 922,57 (MBytes) 2012.12.07 update http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A97_R20/#download So I have not been able to download them yet, for a win 7-64bit system. Sometimes the PC boots perfectly , and sometimes I have to try multable times to get it to boot . Even when I get it to Boot ok , Sometimes it gives me a read error while it is running and I have to restart the PC. If anyone has had a problem like this before , any suggestions would be appreciated ! |

How many RAM modules do you have on that motherboard? Have you tried to troubleshoot the RAM modules? I had a problem with RAM the other day. Narrowed it down to one module that I already had marked as iffy (label says 256 mb module, the computer tells me it is 128 mb, ran into it 8 months ago so I marked it). |

Yep, I basically threw away an Intel board because of one little line of text I didn't see. Then I found a thread about it, then the line I swear wasn't there when I shelved the board because of basically the same symptoms described; "Unbuffered, single-sided or double-sided DIMMs with the following restriction: Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization are not supported." I was not getting any beeps. At first the board would work fine. Then it would start failing to post, at times. Then it wouldn't post at all until you let it set for a few days. All because the ram had 16 chips on a 1gb double sided stick. It works fine with 8 chips on one side of a 1gb stick. That's what Intel means when they say 'not supported'... |

Ok , I contacted Seagate and talked to their Tech support , Since the Drive is still under warranty , they are sending me another Drive to replace this one. also a copy of disk wizard to clone the drive to the new one. Will see if this takes care of the problem , here's hoping this works... |

Did you make sure the sata cables are pushed in all the way? Maybe swap in different cables? </Tazz> |

Power Supply maybe? What type do you have? Something as good as a Rosewill(2-18A 12v rails), a Silverstone ST1500(4-25A 12v rails), it's a temp psu. Just thought I'd ask. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Power Supply maybe? What type do you have? I looked that 1500 up and it is a bit more than I can afford , over 200 USD , from what I could find. According to UPS , the new HD from Seagate will be here sometime next Monday , 22 of April , take a day or so to get it installed and upgraded , so maybe by Wednesday , I can get going again. It would be some time , before I could upgrade the PSU anyway . Just going to have to hope it is good enough till then . |
