Back in the old'e days of bionic it used to take something like 23hrs -32 hrs to do a unit . I'm doing a Astropulse 6.01 right now and it's been 24hrs which is shocking seeing as I have a reasonable system but I was hopeing you guys could give me a idea weather you get the same points as Austropulse cuda approx. 700 or more than that, as it's gona take approx. . 32hrs to finish this unit and doesn't seem fair to only get 700 for it if you get more then ok i'll do them otherwise i'll probably change the settings not to receive them Yes I know i'm a shallow sob ,think about the scince glenn ,no I wont my points and a high rac |

The task you are doing on your CPU is paired with a GPU the did their task with the optimized app. Because of the highly variable nature of CreditNew the credit awarded could be high, low, or average. More often than not credit is generally the same, given the AP blanking, among tasks. The oldest CPU's I currently run AP work on my my i7-860's. Originally I did run AP on my C2D E8400, E6300, & E6400 systems, but those CPU's showed their age compared to newer hardware when running this kind of work. The i7's I use now run about 18 hours per task & process 8 at a time. EDIT: I'm not sure if it would word as expected. Using an app_config.xml with <max_concurrent>0</max_concurrent> set for the CPU AP application might allow you to run AP only on your GPU with the stock apps. I am not sure if the newer version of BOINC that uses app_config.xml is designed to do that, but it might work. Thanks Hal Some C2Q for under 100 USD if you want to upgrade: http://www.geeks.com/products_sc.asp?cat=1142 |

Thanks Hal For me I don't see twice as many slower cores with less cache an upgrade for that system. The only C2Q I'd consider upgrade it with would be a Q9650, but they still go for near around $300. Which is most of what I'd spend on a current board/CPU. Since I don't consider the system slow the only real reason to upgrade it is for greater performance per watt & being able to expand the memory beyond 8GB. Also with the new Haswell chips coming in June(ish) that could lower the price of current generation parts. My i7-3930K@4.4GHz does 6 AP tasks at a time in 3 to 3½ hours on linux running Lunatics AVX version. I'm pleased with the CPU: 6x700 points every 3 hours - if running only AP (not enough tasks available though). My laptop (Core2 something) can do 2 tasks at at time in 22 hours - the cooling fan screams/rattles - so it does not do any work currently. My Q6600 SLACR @ 3GHz does AP's in around 10.5-13hrs on each core while feeding 2 video cards (though I only allow AP's on that system when I know of an up coming extended outage). I just thought that I'd throw that in. Cheers. |
