I used to run SETI@Home at my old place of work, and I am now re-starting. I have created a new account and I have tried the procedure for reclaiming work units. I have the old user_info.sah file from the old system I used to run SETI@Home on (an old Sun Solaris box), but the email_addr field is blank. What I have are valid fields for id, key, name, register_time, last_wu_time, last_result_time, nwus, nresults and total_cpu.

And obviously I can mail this file to the right person... If I knew who the right person was :-)

As well as user_info.sah, I also have key.sah which seems to contain an enormous hex number.

Hopefully this is enough to get me somewhere. Oh yes, and the name of the account contains my amateur radio callsign, which is valid and I can supply a PDF copy of my license.

I can't check what's under there, as one can only claim the old tasks once. Each time after that you get a message that they're already linked to the account you're running with.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have tried at least four E-mail addresses that I know were in use at that time. BUT, I do wonder from looking at the file if I had ever had to submit an E-mail address in the early days. That would explain the email_addr field being blank.

Is there a way of searching for the name in the stats database online? There used to be, but it doesn't seem to be there anymore :-(

I, too, tried unsuccessfully to recover classic SETI credits from years ago. There have been three computers and three email addresses since I started with S@H almost at its inception.

The second of these computers crunched SETI 24/7 for seven or eight years. When I attempted to recover those credits, I got a message saying my former email address was still an active account, even though I have not used that email for two years and no longer have access to it. The system would not let me make any changes.

When I entered the email address from my beginnings with S@H at least ten years ago, the message said there was no such account or email address.

I am also planning to put together a much more advanced system (than this old Dell Pentium 4 box) based on componets sent to me by another S@H participant.
I surely don't want to lose the hard-earned 7200 credits this machine has labored over since I rejoined SETI in January.

So is it possible to recover these old classic credits and add them to my present account?

You don't need access to the email service, the only things needed are the email address and your SETI@home password from back then.

I will get out my old computer and fire it up to find the SETI password that should still be on it.

Don't know about the previous computer, but I'll try to find that really old password on that one too.

Gundolf say that the message: "email address was still an active account"
means that account connected/containing this email address is BOINC account (and not 'pure' Classic SETI@home account)
which can't be merged with your current BOINC account

On the 'old computer' you need to find either email/SETI-password pair
or the <authenticator> found in account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml

After successful log-in (with browser) to the old BOINC account you may want to change the email in it. (if you try you'll see it's not immediately possible)
To change the email:
Log-in again in the new BOINC account - change the email in it from (e.g.) SteveGaber@aaa.xyz to NO-SteveGaber@aaa.xyz (any change will do: FORGET-SteveGaber@aaa.xyz)
Log-in again in the old BOINC account - change the email in it to the proper (SteveGaber@aaa.xyz)


Then stop using your current (new) BOINC account:
- in BOINC Manager:
Set [No new tasks] (select SETI@home and click the button)
Abort not started tasks
Complete and Report ([Update] SETI@home) all tasks
Remove project SETI@home

Start using your old BOINC account:
Add project SETI@home ("Yes, existing user") using email/SETI-password for the proper account.
(probably not very good explanation ;) )


But if you really have another 'pure' Classic SETI@home account
just do as I say here:
