We only plant the organic way. Better
to have weeds than to have Agent Orange
on the lawn and in the vegetable patch.

I sprayed some of the weeds yesterday, turns out the broadleaf plants need to be soaked with weed killer, one I think I killed, the other that is an identical type of plant is in under the cooler where the overflow pipe is at, killed that one partly where I sprayed, I say partly cause part of it is taller than I am and alongside the pads for the swamp cooler, that part of the weed is still kicking, I may have to get some scrap cardboard out to spray the rest of it soon(if I have any spray left that is), then I can do the weeding to get rid of the remains, then I do need something heavy & not worth taking that can keep the water out of the shade so that I can let the water drain off into the sunny area of the gravel, instead of the shady area under the cooler. The 24" resin tray ought to do, I'd attach a hose to the drain pipe instead, but I'm not quite sure how to do that or even if that is possible.

The threaded part attaches to the bottom of the cooler and the smooth part sticks up inside the cooler, since this part is an overflow drain.

I am with you Celt. I like my stuff organic, truly organic. The only time I have to use spray is, when the Bermuda get's into the concrete. Still very far from any edible and very little needed.

My mini Garden: Tomato, Bell Pepper (2), Cucumber, Bush Beans, Cantelope, Honey Dew Melon, Strawberries (5) and some Basil. The pots are filled with Flower seeds from a Friend.
Soon I will be filling in the empty spots with my second batch of Beans.

LOL....
I just got done mowing down my back yard about an hour ago. First time this year. You cannot see the back yard from the street, so I let it get pretty rustic before I limber up the ol' Lawn Boy and do battle with it.

One year I let it go a little TOO long and got a notice in the mail from the town weed commissioner because one of the neighbors got their dander up about it.

Yup, we have an official weed commissioner.

I don't garden. I reluctantly have a yard. I spray the weeds in my yard. I don't apologize for it. And I don't want to be judged for it.

Thanks, I have a 30 year old pair, part cloth and part rough leather, keeps the hands from being damaged when using a hula hoe.

1 more day and I should have all the pruning/shredding done for another year here though I don't think that I'll have enough mulch from the prunings to cover my smallest garden bed in my front garden (I might duck next door with my pruners to finish that), but it has saved me taking a trailer load (8'x4' box with 3' high cage) to the tip.

Cheers.

I just got 5-6t of freshly shredded peppermint gum dropped in front of my woodshed, free of charge, courtesy of the power company (and so they should seeing as the power hasn't been that good around here lately).

So I've now got a lot more to do around the backyard now, though I'll definitely see an end to certain weedy areas around here, but I hope that I don't get overwhelmed by the aroma 1st.

Cheers.

I got a third of the mulch spread out now (about 4 cubic metres) and I'd like to see a weed grow through 5" (about 125mm) of that stuff.

Cheers.

I just found out that the load of mulch was 15-16 cubic metres worth so I move at least 5 cubic metres in the old wheelbarrow.

Cheers.

I take it you've never heard of devils grass? It's tough as nails and will grow even in the desert, it's the ultimate weed... It's also known as Bermuda Grass...

How does it compare to Japanese Knotweed?

Because I am so weak I did not put the vegetable garden in
this year, but LSM still has her flowers all going fine.
Yesterday I was able to use my trimmer and mower for the first time,
I am sore but I feel real good about it. Wish us good luck.

How does it compare to Japanese Knotweed?

I've no idea, never heard of it before now, but then it's knot a weed that I know about, as that plant is not native to California, Bermuda Grass isn't even native to this area, but then the stuff refuses to die, unless sprayed on all exposed parts and that depends on how much of a root system the plant has...

@ Celt: Good luck...
