R.I.P, but remember he was only a TV presenter. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

R.I.P, but remember he was only a TV presenter. No he wasn't. Roger Ebert was a professional journalist (with a Pulitzer Prize) specializing in movie reviews. The TV gig only came about later, and he continued writing reviews after the cancer prevented him from being on TV anymore. R.I.P, but remember he was only a TV presenter. That doesn't impress me as much as the Pulitzer. Anyone can get a star; it just takes money, either his own or someone else's. David Sitting on my butt while others boldly go, Waiting for a message from a small furry creature from Alpha Centauri. |

"Gene died 10 years ago on Feb. 20, 1999. Siskel and Ebert -- the use of their last names a badge of honor and mark of fondness rather than a formality -- became the best-known movie critics in the nation, maybe on the planet, when their Chicago TV show "Sneak Previews" moved to PBS in 1978. The show would go through many titles, but its thumbs-up, thumbs-down format remained as simple and addictive as Raisinets during a matinee. R.I.P. Siskel and Ebert |
