Does anyone know what this means? Should I not accept Astropulse tasks if there is an "error while downloading" or is this normal?

Thank you!

That error was not on your system. Your system erred out with a computational error here. The error code -202 is listed in the BOINC FAQ but really isn't well explained in layman's terms. Perhaps one of the resident code experts could help with an explanation.

Thank you Gatekeeper! I will await any explanation from a code expert.

When the Astropulse application starts, it sets up an area of shared memory which can also be seen by the companion Graphics application in case the user asks to see the graphics or uses the BOINC screensaver. If something goes haywire and makes it impossible to set up that shared memory, that -202 ERR_SHMEM_NAME is issued.

For that Task 2879091715 there were 111 successful starts before the one that failed. That suggests just some temporary condition caused the error, and unfortunately it's probably impossible to pin it down further.

It can be discouraging to have a task error out at about 95% progress after nearly two days of run time, but a personal choice whether one such case is enough to stop doing Astropulse.
