Here's a poem to cap a Thursday night...based on hearing a nearby cubemate rave about a guy she met.

The Birth of Life

There is this movement
fast and slow
ingenious and gentle
the right conditions at the right time
as a new world is formed

There is this coincidence
complex and unique
incredible and genuine
in one split second
the creation of a Universe
as a new future is born

Temperature, light, energy
time, space and curvature
exact synchronization
of an instant wonder

There is this movement
that results in
the Birth of Life

I really like this sentence from the movie Cloud Atlas.

"Each crime and every kindness is the birth of our future"

Cant get it out of my head.

With each crime and every kindness we birth our future.

Gosh you really do have a way with words, like Mike I also admire your poems. You really should put an anthology together one day.

Thanx Chris:) I issued a book with poems when I was younger. It was called 'Carpe Momentum'. Should do that again though but the problem is not a lot of publishers here want to issue poems written in English...

A choice to make

When your mind is full of sadness
and hope is far away

when your world has turned into madness
you can't cope another day

when you need to take some distance
evaluate, the role you play

when you think about your future
and the doubts are in the way

you may have a choice to make
to prevent the pain and sorrow

please don't hesitate to do so
and start with it......., tomorrow

Here's one of a number of poems, Landays (2-lines, each), which have
been -- and, continue to be -- written exclusively by the women of Afghanistan.

I'd never heard of them, before reading them in the
special June, 2013 issue of "Poetry" magazine.

It's a particularily beautiful one, attributed to Malalai, a
Pashtun poet and woman warrier, who fought alongside the commander,
Ayub Khan, to defeat the British at the Battle of Maiwand on
July 27, 1880. This poem of Malalai can be found on page 206, with
additional information on page 207.

As with most, if not all these poems, it has no title.

Equilibrium

I will see this through,
I'll be stronger than before,
Because I will never again
Lose you.

I'll suffocate my sorrow,
I'll kill it in it's sleep,
I've finally had it now.
As of this moment I won't weep.

I will hold up high,
The shield that I carry,
I will hold up high,
Your love - so legendary.

Balance is often fragile,
Unlike the night and day,
Kept almost perfectly aside,
Unlike most minds astray.

I've had much to endure,
I'll shake it off and shed my skin,
Like the snake, at rabbit's lure.

I wonder if it's sane,
To leave the broken mind behind,
Although it's never too late,
To mend it all at night.

Look into doing it as an eBook, or a publish-on-demand book. I think Amazon does both. Don't have a clue as to cost...

Years ago, a fellow who used to post on alt.callahans had a book of his online stories published through a small press outfit in Texas. Have to find it and see if they are still online.

MY FIRST THREAD POSTING EXPERIENCE

Had nothing better to do, Time was around quarter to ten.
Let's post a post online, Suddenly came an idea then.
Was my first time on SETI, I was composed and in complete Zen.
I rose to the occasion, And in all my might I picked up the Pen.
Suddenly I realized my blunder, I had posted the post twice when.
"Behold ye child"! then came a voice, From a deep dark correctional den.
I was completely shocked awe struck, Was shivering like a little hen.
Came to my rescue an angel then, King of the jungle and the moderator of men.
I sincerely Apologize for Double Posting, Won't do it never ever again.

She welcome's me with sorrowful eyes,
her poems like pizza and words crisp French fries,
Pretty face, Beautiful eyes, I wonder still why she cries...

Does she not know how to tie the ties,
Or does she often cook rotten pies,
Pretty face, Beautiful eyes, I wonder still why she cries...

May be her lover seldom lies,
Or does her pet everyday dies,
Pretty face, Beautiful eyes, I wonder still why she cries...

To forget what so hard she tries,
Living under dark grey skies,
Pretty face, Beautiful eyes, I wonder still why she cries...

Guess the same old problem of compatibility applies,
Between the chromosomes X's and Y's,
Pretty face, Beautiful eyes, I wonder still why she cries...

A day of joy

When your day is full of joy
and your happiness is found
when a sunbeam warms your heart
and your friends are all around

please extend that warming beam
share the warmth, pass it through
make a heart glow that is near
it completes happiness for you

The seven degrees of separation

My mind was speaking logic inside my head
But my heart making logic, makes no sense at all
Made me feel like It wasn’t all that bad
After all, no one could ever really fall

Then the cold froze me solid
I got heavy, like I was made out of lead
My heart wrote the darkest sonnet
When my blue sky turned red

Suddenly a little bird came along
Thought it was there to melt the lead
He was singing the most melancholic song
And stabbed me in the chest instead

I fell down, touched the ground
Lay there unconscious for a while
Until sunrays woke my spirit in a way so profound
Creating little hints of a smile

I got up and stood real tall
Breathing air as if it was lost then found
No longer felt the need to crawl
With my feet safely on the ground

I began my journey through the maze
Eyes fixed on clarity and relief
The end of an endless race
I finally started to believe

I guess truth is what I found
Everyone does fall after all
But in the end an amazing new sound
Will make you feel less small

POETRY = ICE CREAM

I ain't no pro at Poetry, Just try to write the best I can.

Poetry's like chocolate iscream, And Im just another huge big fan.

My heart throbs and beats faster, The moment I see the ice cream van.

Just grabbed a few bucks from my mother, And faster than Usain Bolt I ran.

Right now Im licking on sweet choco iscream, But wonder where's the iscream man.

Im seldom visiting at his Corner, But I never meet the Poet Dan...

Opportunity

Stagnated for a lifetime it seems we've given up
Circumstances without progress forcing us to accept
Held captive by a huge smoke screen we turned a blind eye
As we became passive, opportunity was lost for us

Waiting motionless, hoping for just a little change
Laughing continuously 'cause we don’t believe
Restricted by expectation, paralyzed in life
We seek for a glimmer of hope, avoiding our doom

Awakening with a feeling of determination
Reflecting and rejecting all insecurity
We endeavour to embrace our motivation
Today we take a stand and pull our own strings

Shifting our mentality is what makes the difference
Making small steps towards what we want ‘it’ to be
Opportunity is there, right in front of us
Captured with enthusiasm we're ready to explore

The Hedgehog

There once was a hedgehog crying all day long.
Along came a squirrel asking what's wrong.
The squirrel felt sorry and gave him a hug.
But then he shouted and called the hedgehog a thug.
The hedgehog just shrugged and cried even more.
His eyes started to burn and his throat was so sore.
So he started walking towards the lake.
And on his way he came across a snake.
The snake felt sorry but wanted to eat him as well.
He wasn’t interested in what the hedgehog had to tell.
But the hedgehog didn’t see it because of the tears in his eyes.
So the snake was a sudden and unpleasant surprise.
The snake opened his mouth to take a bite.
But then he shouted and ran off in fright.
The hedgehog then slowed down his pace.
Can nobody love me? He cried into space.

Along came a fairy who had been watching all day.
She said she could help him but he had to repay.
She said she could release him from his pains with one magic spell.
But then he had to say all his friends farewell.
The hedgehog thought of it for a little while.
But then his tears dried and he said with a smile:
My friends might not hug me but the really do care.
I know I can rely on them and that they always be there.
The fairy smiled and wiped the hedgehog last fallen tear.
Then she spoke: ‘my dear hedgehog, that was all I needed to hear’

SOLAR ANTHOLOGY...

Thee Family Pet

smallest in the family,
but makes it complete...
stays away from father,
does'nt like the heat...

is completely unleashed,
a very naughty chap...
astronomers got furious,
and gave him a tight slap...

hail! oh ye astronomers,
no matter however small he mite be...
but this little guy,
