so even if we converted all our corn production to ethanol we fall FAR short of what we need

now adding in domestic oil production

2,369,484,000 x 43 = 101,887,812,000

From what I see, from this side of the pond, not having visited for a few years, is that if people would buy newer vehicles there would be quite a saving. Wiki -Age of vehicles in operation says

"The study found that of vehicles in operation in the US, 38.3% were older than ten years, 22.3% were between seven and ten years old, 25.8% were between three and six years old and 13.5% were less than two years old."

Also nearly everywhere people are running around in trucks and SUV's and the like without needing them. Some of those, even the new ones, struggle to do 20mpg, so swapping to a more suitable vehicle that would probably do 35mpg or greater would cover the shortfall.

Ummm, less pop in the cylinder, less mileage per tank. Also something real DANG silly about burning what you eat.
