It seems we're still teaching the Germans.....

English word enters German Dictionary

....& with the mess Europe is currently in, it has to be the biggest & most apt word!

You can say that again!!! Time we sounded, "Last bell" on this lot. The British
voting public aren't prepared to put up with much more from them nor Brussels
either....roll-on the General Election in 2015...there's going to be some big
changes one way or another.

I think toss the key sentences are too light. There shouldn't even be a key to the cage. Weld the thing shut.

Nice insights to the EU.....

How the EU works

"In 2012 the budget for the service was 489m euros (£422m; $649m), and it has a staff of 3,500 (1,500 in HQ and 2,000 in delegations)."

"A European Parliament report this year called the service top-heavy and slow to react to crises"

Isn't that true of all governments?

Can understand why the anti-EU groups in Germany are on the up's.

The best solution to a caravan it to allocate an RPG to see if off, as seen on Top Gear

I have always thought that towed caravans should have an annual MOT and pay Road Tax, at £200 on the 500,000 vans would give the Exchequer £1billion more. Clearly Motorhomes pay Road Tax and have an MOT, so why are caravans not treated the same?

Because a Motorhome is a vehicle in it's own right, while a caravan is attached to another vehicle that already pays road tax. Why should caravans have to pay twice?

Chris - I object to your use of the phrase -"always towed by an underpowered car". The last few times I've towed a caravan lack of power hasn't been a problem on my behalf. Imagine the A38 in Devon, you know the three dimensionally twisty bit, and a small caravan being towed by a Land Rover which had been mated with a decent V8 - you could see the driver in front looking for the TVR, then as the road cleared realising that the TVR wasn't a TVR, but that Land Rover being pursued by a caravan and Land Rover shouldn't be making noises like that, or accelerating like that....

As to the subject of an MOT for caravans, certainly, most of the spend a lot of the year sitting in a field, tyres, brakes, bearing etc. all deteriorating through lack of use and maintenance. They then get pulled out onto the road, and "thrashed" down to the coast for a few days in salt air....

Because they take up twice the space, and depending on the weight of the caravan probably do just as much damage to the road as any other vehicle. And certainly, in a lot of cases, cause the drivers of vehicles near them to damage the edges of the roads and the verges, when trying to dive out of the way.

No, although it seems that you would like it to be.

But when it comes to foreign policy, some observers in Washington say that, more than anything else, the US wants clarity. Berlin's abstention from the United Nations Security Council vote in 2011 authorizing intervention in Libya remains fresh in many minds, and Germany's approach to the upheavals in North Africa and Syria has been inconsistent at best.

You a mind reader then?
