Better something late than not at all.

Really? In that case, why don't you pop over to the Commission & demand that they get their accounts audited!

It's as if the Wiley Coyote caught the Road Runner!

EU Budget fraud 12 times higher than estimated

"'If what I say sounds familiar it is because we are in a depressingly familiar situation yet again this year. European taxpayers' money continues to be wasted and the European Parliament is still being asked to grant discharge to accounts which have been condemned by the Court of Auditors.'"

It seems the auditors are being ignored by the European Parliament, another reason to exit the EU, as these unelected muppets are giving us all the bird.

Of course, anything is better than nothing. Buy me a ticket and I'll happily have a word in their ear :-) I've been to Brussels before, nice city, but never to Strasbourg. I wonder if the Luxembourg 208 studios are still there? I can tell you that London MEP's are not happy with the EU waste or accounts either, but the only way to alter it for the better, is to be part of it and fight for change from within. Turning our backs and walking away won't achieve anything.

Although most people immediately associate the European Parliament with Brussels, it is in fact the French city of Strasbourg that is the European Parliament’s official home. In addition, part of Parliament’s administration is located in Luxembourg . Parliament thus divides its work between no fewer than three cities.

Why don't you have a word with your local MEP's ? I've already met mine.

Late edit - Good to see Tory MEP's apparently waking up at last.

Waking-up, well it's taken a hell of a long time to do so. Who's roused them
from their sleep....er',not the UKIND by any chance??

What these MEP's are waking up to is the fact that their seats in Brussels are
under threat. If it were not for the UKIND party then this change of heart would
not be happening. This is what is so wrong with our politicians today, the only
time they start to tighten their belts up is when someone threatens to pull
their trousers down. It's another political party that's threatening them and
not the ordinary man/woman in the street. If the MEP's and the Westminster
M.P's had bothered to listen to us in the first place then the UKIND would
never have been formed,'et-al'. Perhaps if the UKIND was to be
part of a coalition government,in the future, could one say that this was the
first true democratic party ever to be active in government in the UK??

I don't think our "glorious leaders" really know what they're doing......

In one breath, stating that living on credit disrupts the country & in another, stating that we must provide for ourselves via savings & pensions....

...which is a good point to make BUT what's the point of saving when you get this in another breath?

UK in legal challenge to financial transaction Tax

"Britain doesn't want to take part but it also doesn't want to be caught in the effects of this tax being introduced by other countries. Let's be clear - financial transaction tax is not a tax on banks or bankers, it's a tax on pensioners and people with savings and investment."

"The EU said it was confident the FTT was "legally sound"." Of course they would! They want to continue feasting!

Another sound bite from our politicians! & a waste of taxpayers money as they will only lose!

Assuming financial transactions are done with European Banks located in the UK, and that the UK has not implemented the FTT, then it would not apply to any financial transactions done in the City. Indeed, if the UK took this stance, then more work could move to the UK as a result of Europe implementing the FTT in 11 of the partner countries. The European Banks could transfer that work to their UK branch and complete it in the City.

If Brussels protests and passes some form of Directive. Then we should not implement it and just ignore them. Certainly the UK should not collect their imposed FTT business.

The Robin Hood Tax campaign group says that, if the UK signed up to a tax on the financial sector, "it could give a vital boost to the NHS, our schools, and the fight against child poverty in the UK".

Above taken from Sirius's article......

Do these campaigners not realise that any money coming back to the UK, via FTT,
from Brussels can only be spent on sectors as directed by Brussels. There is no
actual indication coming out of Brussels that any of this FTT will be directed
back towards the UK anyway. "Give a vital boost to the NHS"...what, to make it
even more financially inefficient than it is at the moment?..."Boost to our
schools"...they don't need a financial boost, they need a boost in the standard
of education being applied by the teachers. "Fight against child poverty" rubbish,
bunkum and downright unholy lies...there is NO CHILD POVERTY IN THE UK!!!! The
social welfare system removed poverty in this region 40 years ago. If a child is
suffering from the effects of poverty then I suggest the Robin Hood Tax
campaigners go and have a chat with these kids parents and enquire as to why
is the social money they are getting not being spent on their children.

With respect Nick, CPAG would disagree with you.

The state provides....what have the parents done with this provision.
If a child is living in poverty and the state has provided then investigate
the parents.

it looks like highly respected scholars have been lurking on this thread......

Merkiavelli

"Simon Heffer

First, politicians want to muzzle the Press and end freedom of speech in Britain. Now we learn that some of the pressure groups campaigning for such totalitarianism are receiving European Union funds.

The EU has long hated freedom of speech - threatening to stop the pensions of former employees who criticise it, sacking whistle-blowers and even punishing MEPs who make anti-European remarks. It's another example of the anti-democratic nature of the EU that we must avoid here."

No, quite the opposite. The popular press and the media would have us all believe that we would be better off walking out of the EU right now and never going back. Cameron has always fought to stay in and negotiate better terms, and now the UK's top bosses have come out and agreed with him.

Sounding a bit like the "American New Deal"...Well, Cameron has the ammunition
now, with the UK's business backing,to start to force the pace of change so
desperately need - not just for us but for the whole of the EU too.
He would make a great name for himself if he started to use this power
constructively. Else, soon, someone else will steal the show and take all the credit.

Does it not prove then the Europes economy was running under false economics.
It survived only because of the high levels of government spending supporting
it and not general world business trade as a whole.

No countries government has ever managed to spend it's way out from a recession
or depression for all you do is deepen or prolong it by spending. The time
for governments to start spending freely is when your economy is actually
coming out from a recession or depression for now you can speed up your
growth rate and rate of exit from this plight. Growth now becomes self
perpetuating for all sectors of the economy are naturally growing so your
government spending becomes covered by your higher tax take from the whole
of this growing economy and not just from those few sectors you have supported by
your spending....which on their own will not give you a return on capital that
makes it a viable proposition. James Callaghan told many this after his
attempt to spend the UK out of it's recession back in the 70's. Unfortunately
Jim all you got wrong was your timing for what you did was correct but you
started your spending though way too soon.

When will these Euro numpties switch on, we are in a private and public sector
debt driven recession/depression which means that there can be no valuable
economic growth until the debt has been paid back so leaving the world with
money in it's pocket to start spending again with.

I bagsy being the Chancellor of the Isle of Wight....
