Every little helps.

Winning a lot because I have mended my laptop. Having worked loyally all thru the trip, as soon as I got home the fan stopped and the processor wisely throttled back to about 5% normal speed. Felt like someone dropped a 286 in there when I wasn't looking. Not good for the RAC.

Much aided by Google, I was able to disassemble it and remove at least four years of dust from the fan/heatexchanger. The fan is now much slower and eerily quiet - quieter than when I bought it, even when running SETI. (It was 2nd hand so probably partly clogged when it got here.) Being now a little jumpy, I've arranged a piece of paper to reassure myself the fan is still running.

And before the great 3 day move...

When is that exactly?
Could be touch and go for the winning post, which looks as though it will be (or would have been?) on April 1st.

It's on the front page:

We are moving most of our servers to a colocation facility with better cooling, power, and network, which should improve uptime in general. This procedure will start on Monday, April 1st at 08:00 (PDT) and should take 3 days to complete, during which our entire project will be unavailable.

Very much so.

By then I'll hope to have bought a Zotac Infinity Edition GTX 580 card, a water cooled card.

Winning on a partly Cloudy Sunday evening. Only a few sprinkles of rain since the thunderstorm early this morning. Maybe we'll get a little more overnight - sure do need it. If I don't get back before the shutdown Monday morning, see you all Wednesday night or Thursday.
