I did Seti@Home long ago, and with my new fast computer, thought I'd give it another shot. The odd thing is that the downloads are taking forever, and most of them just sit there, not doing anything. Some creep along. A 300K file still has not downloaded in about 24 hours. Many files are a little downloaded. Given the size of files and my overall bandwidth, I'd expect these could all be downloaded in about 2 - 3 minutes at most. Any thoughts? kcuhC |

It's not your bandwidth that's the problem, it's that the 100Mbit connection that Seti is allowed to use is completely saturated by just about everyone else trying to download work at the same time. So yes, it'll be slow going. For everyone. |

The odd thing is that the downloads are taking forever, and most of them just sit there, not doing anything. Some creep along. A 300K file still has not downloaded in about 24 hours. Since the recent move of the servers to a new location, even the TCP fix linked to is no longer required. I'm downloading 50 or more WUs in about 20 seconds at the moment. Grant Darwin NT |

Any isea what the problem is? Making sure that you don't use the screen saver at all, and don't have an Anti Virus programme set to scan the BOINC programme & data directories will help. Running an optimised application would also help, but the real problem is your system- it is basically ancient & slow compared to modern systems. CPU comparison Keep in mind the i7 2600k isn't the latest & greatest available, and the Celeron 440 would leave your P4 behind. Grant Darwin NT |
