Shorthand for Tech shut up!

I gathered as much. "Tech talk" was my suggestion for a renamed "Number crunching" if the powers that be find it necessary to rename it.

"Tech talk" doesn't sound any more newbie-friendly than "Number crunching".

How about "Tech Help & Talk"?

Since the relocation of the servers, I have noticed a marked improvement in "download and upload" speeds. Before the relocation, the speeds were almost unbareably slow and somewhat "iffy". Now, however, I can see 50 files download and or upload in as little as 45 seconds to one minute. I don't know what the relocation team did in addition to the relocation, but things have improved in a dramatic way. Great job for the relocation team!

For internal reason the link to the old "server closet" was restricted to 100meg and became saturated very easily.

Now the servers are located in a dedicated facility they have access to a 1Gb link(as far as we can tell) so the link no longer slows traffic down. The next bottleneck will probably be the speed the data can be written to disk.

You would be about right. A chain is only so strong as it's weakest link. The colo move certainly seems to have speeded up the download & upload times, that is for sure. Next down the line has to be the physical kit handling these increased data flows. Seti have acquired some pretty decent kit in recent times

Plus all sorts on ancillary kit like drive arrays. But it has to be said that some of those were pressed into service to cover tasks that they were not originally intended for. I think that the colo move was Stage 1 of a long term plan, in that now they can cope with shifting the level of data that both they and users want. Stage 2 will be to make the best and maximum use of the kit that they have, which I am sure that they are doing. In the long term I really really want to see a dedicated server actually running Nitpicker. I am sure that was the original intention, but it seems to be on the back burner at the moment.

I will always support this project financially and physically without question because I believe in what they are trying to do, but as the goalposts get moved, the infrastructure behind it has to move also.

Hi Juan,

Some of us were wondering where Slavac had got to, I hadn't heard any more.

Hi

Last post from him: he is good and arround but have some personal stuff to fix, so we hope he will be back with us soon and give his usual hand to help the project. We all miss him.
