one issue i appear to be having with .56 win7 Lunatics v40 .. when i exit boinc via the boinc icon, boinc continues to run in the background .. end process through task manager only Look for 1) Tools --> Options: "Enable Manager exit dialog?". Check it. 2) File --> Exit BOINC: now you should have 'Exit confirmation'. Check "Stop running tasks when exiting the BOINC Manager". Go through it once like that, and once you've done it once, you should be able to do it via the icon in the system tray from then on. |

one issue i appear to be having with .56 win7 Lunatics v40 .. when i exit boinc via the boinc icon, boinc continues to run in the background .. end process through task manager only You may have set BOINC to not show the exit dialog. Which can be enabled via options. When it is enabled and you exit BOINC there is an option "stop running science applications when exiting BOINC". Which you would want to check. Open BOINC Manager->Tools->Options->check that the check mark on "Enable Manager exit dialog?" is on->OK. Then BOINC Manager->File->Exit BOINC. You will now have the exit dialog. As long as you don't (again) check "Remember this decision and do not show this dialog", all the next times you now exit BOINC Manager, you will get this dialog. Remember that BOINC consists of two main parts, the client (doing all the stuff for real) and the manager, which is just a graphical interface making it easier for you to control the client. You can exit BOINC Manager and leave the client running. This used to be only possible with a service installation, but this has changed since BOINC 6.0; since that time it's possible to separately run the client and the manager, and thus exiting the manager without exiting the client. Using Windows Task Manager to exit the client is a bad thing, it can crash tasks. It is better to use the BOINCCMD tool with the --quit command then. Or just enable the exit dialog in BOINC Manager and see the exit. |

What they failed to mention is that changing options there only gets fixed into the registry when Boinc is manually shut down. On an automated powerdown (e.g. restarting for Windows updates) for some reason it doesn't write to registry. Caught me out a few times. Unless that has been fixed in the past year or so? - too many open tickets and I've never gotten around to make a list of them and test and re-report with each version.
