FAN RUNNING CONSTANTLY WHEN PROCESSING

Had network issues with last laptop which prevented upload of completed work so now have a new one and decided to have another crack. I need to know if its possible to adjust processing preferences to stop the fan running constantly. When using the laptop the fan doesn't usually come on. When not in use and BOINC starts processing it does and remains on. A little noisy if I'm in the room. I guess it's because its set to use 100% of CPU. Is it as simple as reducing that %? Thanks. You would probably have to reduce the cpu usage somewhat more than the 4% you suggest to get any meaningful reduction in temperature. Is it safe to assume running CPU at 100% all of the time is not good for the laptop? I'm not mad into processing a load of work. More of a casual thing. If my laptops on it may as well be doing something but I don't want to kill it :-) ID: 1347842 ·

Use something like CPU-Z to keep an eye on your cpu temp. My guess is that somewhere around the 50% mark you will start to see the fan speed start to climb, and then the cpu temperature will start to increase as the cooling system reaches its capacity. I can fully understand not wanting to kill a laptop - I've got a couple of dead ones here if you like to play...
