I used to process one task at a time. Then I had to update the software because the old version wouldn't run anymore. When I did that it apparently kept the old task but also assigned me a new task. Net result is I have had two tasks being processed on my PC at the same time since then.

I want to reduce this back to one task being processed at a time. These two tasks compete against each other and it takes a long time to finish them. By reducing to one task on my PC, the task will finish much faster.

How do I do this?

Rich

P.S. I did do a search on this forum and found the responses full of posts which have all kinds of prior notes quotes (and apparently argumentive people). I did see some reference to using regedit but unless I can get a more direct and definitive answer that some oblique reference in an old post, I'm not going into regedit (not that I mind regedit, I've just learned to be cautious).

Go to Your Account (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/home.php)
Click Computing preferences (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=global)
Edit these.
Change On multiprocessors, use at most 100% of the processors from 100 to 50.
Save changes to the preferences with the Update preferences button at the bottom of the page.
Open BOINC Manager.
If Simple View->Select Seti@Home from the Projects drop-down menu, then select Update from the Project commands button.
If Advanced View->Projects tab->Select Seti@Home->Click Update.

If by chance you're using the local advanced preferences, then you will have to change the use of the amount of processors in here.
Advanced view->Tools->Computing preferences->Processor usage->On multiprocessor systems, use at most 50% of the processors->OK.
