I crunch for seti have since 2000. but now since i built a new rig i want to give some time to other projects but only when i have no work from seti. is there a wat to set it up so that when i finish my last seti wu it goes out and get 1 and only 1 wu per processor from einstein and then after the einstein wu is done checks for work from seti then if none goes and get 1 wu again? I RTFM and it was WYSIWYG then i found out it was a PEBKAC error |

The only way I know is not exactly what you want: You can set the resource share of the backup project to 0 and then BOINC wont ask for work from that project until there is no work for the main project. (as you want) But when BOINC gets work from the backup project it wont be just 1 task... Not sure how many, but for sure not only 1. And I dont know of any setting to instruct BOINC to ask only a certain amount of tasks... |

All my back up projects are set to a resource share of 0 so that when I run dry of SETI work (SETI resource share is set at 100) I get a small amount of work from 1 them but restricting that work to just 1 wu is an other story that I can't tell. Cheers. |

The only way I know is not exactly what you want: Initially backup projects would fill the whole queue with work. However this was fixed in later versions of BOINC. So now backup projects will only grab 1 task per resources they are allowed to use. Such as 4 CPU & 2 GPU tasks for a 4 core dual GPU system. I forget if that as corrected in 6.10.xx or not until 6.12.xx SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

The only way I know is not exactly what you want: Im using 6.10 and it gets several tasks, not to fill the whole cache but more than one per iddle device... Im not sure if 6.12 does it different... |

The only way I know is not exactly what you want: Using 6.10.60 I get about 60-75% of my cache setting each time mine contact a backup project which is fine by me but they will fill the cache up if a 2nd request is made to a back up project. Cheers. |

The only way I know is not exactly what you want: I use BOINC 7.0.28. If I set the backup project to 0% and ask for new tasks, it will get as many tasks as there are cores running idle. e.g. I have a total of 8 cores, 3 of them are running for SETI (because there are no more task available), so the backup project will get 5 tasks. |

The only way I know is not exactly what you want: thanks i will try this. when seti had no work for me today i attached to einstein and it dumped like 200 wu to me. so if i goto there and set the resource to 0% then it will only give me up to 9 wu 8 cores and 1 gpu I RTFM and it was WYSIWYG then i found out it was a PEBKAC error |

I don't know if this will wok for you or not: Maybe someone may be able to confirm either way. I'm guessing that you have a Dual Processor System. So, I was wondering if you go into the Preferences for Each Project (one at a time), and set it/them as follows:- 1.) SETI ..... Set to use 2 Processors (for This Project Only). On multiprocessors, use at most ............ 2 processors On multiprocessors, use at most ............ 100% of the processors Enforced by version 6.1+ ---------------------------------------------------------- 2.) Other Projects ..... Set each Other Project to 1 Processor (for This Project Only). On multiprocessors, use at most ............ 1 processors On multiprocessors, use at most ............ * ---% of the processors Enforced by version 6.1+ ( * ---% use a Setting of Your Own Choice, such as sharing it between other Projects) If I'm correct, this should give SETI 100% usage of BOTH Processors, and Each of the other Projects will only use their allocated Share of One Processor. I'm not sure what would be the Result if you Set The Other Projects to 100% of That One Processor. However, please await for Confirmation from a few other Users in case I'm Wrong. GALAXY-VOYAGER |

I don't know if this will wok for you or not: Maybe someone may be able to confirm either way. Those usage preferences are global. They can only be set for Boinc as a whole, not per project. A person who won't read has no advantage over one who can't read. (Mark Twain) |

I have 8 processors 4 cores + hyperthreading right now only crunching seti as they seem to have work available. I will let everyone know what happens durring the next outage. right now i can go through my 100 wu seti cache in only a few hours tacke me about 15 min on the tiny wu's and between 1 hour and an hour and 20 min on the larger ones. my new 680 is due to arrive on monday (i hate backorder status) and once i get this in i assume my times will shrink drasticly. I RTFM and it was WYSIWYG then i found out it was a PEBKAC error |

A couple of my backup projects won't actually let you set to exactly 0 but 1 will do fine and some will allow a 0.1 setting as well. Cheers. |
