I was looking around today and noticed this in my task page"sent 5 Mar 2013, 2:50:36 UTC finished 6 Mar 2013, 16:21:42 UTC Completed, waiting for validation...just wondering what could be taking this 3 days to validate?..the other 2 projects i am working on seem to do this in just a couple minutes...do i need to change a setting or something?

S@H validation is more complex that some other projects.
each Work Unit is distributed as two, identical, Tasks to two different crunchers. These crunchers crunch and return these in their own time, and provided they are returned in time they two results are compared with each other and if they are sufficiently similar then the WU is classified as "validated", and you get the credit. If they aren't sufficiently similar, or one of the crunchers fails to return in time, a third task is generated, distributed, crunched, then compared with the first two -and so on until either the limit on re-distribution is reached or two crunchers agree on the data. This can take months....

I have several items a month old waiting on validation, seems like it is taking forever for validation on items.

Jerel, you have one task that is waiting for validation, you returned it in January, and the current active cruncher is due to respond by the 15 March. This is a "fine example" of a task taking months to get validated. Be patient, something will happen, one day....

I too have multiple "Completed, waiting for validation" MB work units that both I and my wingmen completed six weeks ago. For example, see these:

and more.....

What's to be done now?

Well Grant, I was skeptical that waiting further beyond six weeks would help, but tonight I checked the status of the 4 work units I listed above, and I'm please they are now all validated! Maybe yesterday's outage did it ......?

For me, now SOLVED.

Or it just took that long to get enough results returned to validate them.
I've got 1,325 tasks pending validation at the moment.
I've got 1 from Jan, 20 from February & 100s from March still waiting for another WU to compare & validate with.

WU deadlines are roughly anything from 3-6 weeks. If the person that got the other copy of your WU doesn't return it it gets sent out to another person, once the deadline is reached. If you're unlucky it could take 4+ months before something will finally be validated.

I am aware of that potential long wait for wingmen. However, my posting pointed out that the 4 WUs I listed above were completed by BOTH me and my wingmen six weeks earlier (Feb 2x, 2013) and had been in "completed awaiting validation" status since that time - so I was questioning why they stayed in that status for so long. See this one for example http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/workunit.php?wuid=1175024737

I still don't know why the validation action took six weeks, but since they're now "completed and validated" my curiosity has abated somewhat.
