This news, if it happens, could mean a million more things to the UK than any by-elections could ever do.

ECHR

I'm getting the impression that far too many people sit at home on their backside, reading too many newspapers, and saying tut tut that isn't right.

Is that a fact? So you continously say that you're doing your bit? FYI, others are doing so as well & doing so as it's much needed & not to get their "5 minutes of fame".

Just how many times have you made reference to people whining, moaning & lazing about reading newspapers like the "Waily Fail"

If you believe the story you posted, I'll let you know that Hollande Sauce(©Chris S) has authorised me to sell the Eiffel Tower & it's yours for a song!

Sorry old son, I don't deal with spivs!

That may be, but you seem to enjoy working for them.......

I spent 2 hours last Thursday night as an official teller outside my local polling station for a by-election, freezing my nuts off in the bitter cold.

That report is a distortion and likely to be a General Election manifesto pledge. But, I must say it is a move I would applaud and back ...
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Fiddle sticks to them all, none can make a decision then act on it.
Cross-rail, 50 years to decide to build it then finally start construction,
Heathrow expansion, 15 years in deciding and yet still no decision made.
ECM, 5 years saying we will hold a referendum, then 5 years spent making
excuses why they never held one and now another 5 years before they may
actually hold one...total 15 years. Power generation, 10 years with one party
knowing a decision needed to be made but never made one, followed by another
5 years with the next incumbent party pretending that a decision isn't all
that important at the moment, to be followed by another 5 years with the
public's power having to be rationed out....another 15 years lost.
ECHR, 5 years wasted by the previous party knowing it was wrong but doing
nothing about it, followed by the next incumbent party saying it is wrong
and saying they might do something about it next term, to be followed by
another 5 years of them saying, "we will do it"...honest but only if we
hold a majority government....that's funny...another 15 years lost.
What do we have here, simple, a total lack of decisiveness amongst the whole
lot of them in Westminster plus a total lack of ability to act in quick time.
Ask any of them, "How many sugars in your coffee, lovies", and by the time
they've mad up their minds the coffee will have gone stoney-cold....and to
think, "The majority of the populous still vote for this lot"...there's none
so strange as folk.

But I'm not out to change the world either, so there is little point in continuing to flog a dead horse here. I'll leave those of a similar viewpoint to chat amongst themselves, less work for me, and less boring for others to read.

Yes "Minister"....by the way, "I wonder who's dinner plate this will turn up on"?

Amazing, there are those who are aware of serious issues with the running of this country & every attempt to highlight them gets lamblasted/lampooned/insulted/baited, with the main questions left unanswered. A typical example is the post above relating to spivs. Notice how the questions remain?

However, there have been no comments on those "so-called" managerial class when they spout the same views - Now that i don't find amazing, in fact it just confirms that there are those within the system just out to feather their own nests!

"If only our problem in places like Eastleigh was that simple. It is about something much more fundamental than the leadership.

The Conservative Party faces two existential questions – one about the economy, the other about ourselves – which, unless we can find the answer, make Eastleigh ominous, not just an unlucky mid-term blip.

At the heart of the Tory Party lies a vacuum where there ought to be an economic policy. Ever since we abandoned our belief in monetarism two decades ago, we have failed to replace it with anything coherent that works.

Party conferences, which were once a place where local activists might meet and exchange good ideas, have been taken over by big corporate interests, the volunteers priced out.

Political parties are first and foremost in the business of retail. They exist in order to get us to buy into politicians and their policies. But in the age of the internet, retail is changing.

HMV, the music retailer, went bust. Why? It had a declining market share and costly overheads. The Conservative party is run a bit like HMV, and if it does not change, it will go the way of HMV."

Seen at Eastleigh last week & pretty sure it sums up the feelings of the majority of the country.....

Lord Ashcroft, a staunch conservative has stated that he will no longer fund the Conservative Party......

Good post, Sirius......

Thanks. However, I didn't enjoy posting it. As for the post below yours & above this one - Trolling? Bating?

Not once Have I ever done that intentionally or untentionally to the best of my knowledge. However, it is now known that the shoe was reversed. Unfortunately for those disadvantaged minds, it failed.

The problem as I see it is that this country (& it's not alone in this) has got too ingrained in FYJIA syndrome - Making a quick $ without any strenous effect in obtaining it. Once obtained, go out of their way to blacken the name of anyone that highlights that fact.

Most decent people realise that someone has to be at the bottom with someone at the top & that in itself is where major problems lie!

Too many at the top want more than they can ever spend while keeping those below them on a pittance.

Whichever party comes up with pulling out of the EU & getting all the Eurozone countries to agree & return to being just the EEC will be on a winner!

Unfortunately, I cannot name any of our politicians that has the courage to state that & that is disappointing to say the least!

I expect there are quite a few of them but at the moment lack the confidence
to stick their heads up above the water. The Euro looks like it's about to
collapse again so who knows what sparks this event will cause. Possibly even
a flight to safety by migrants wishing to move to the UK because it's currency
is more valuable and stable as against that of the Euro.
